    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • it was a great place to work for. it holds the biggest alcohol and beverage brands and working face to face with these company makes you feel sometimes overwhelmed. I loved the location and was very close to my place. i also had some samples to try while learning about alcohol.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • very valued. as you can imagine while working with alcohol doesn't necessary have to be drunk. We did many alcohol samples but you need to spit out and not swallow. But the colleagues are very valued and down to earth. they support you from time to time and also make you feel pleased.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • nothing you don't know about not knowing anything. I was an alcohol literate but did'nt know much about the process of making and marketing i did want to learn more and which i did and i am glad to have a great mentors around to teach me. i feel lucky.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • sometimes busy sometimes not. if you're working in summer then you will be very busy of course. since i was working in summer we had to do many launches of new alcohol brands and that did help me to find many more people doing the same from the manufacturers. I loved it.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • when they hire you they do expect a bit more from you. but its upto you if you want to fit in the role. i was a very energised to work with such a big company and be a part of such a big family. to be honest i never felt like going to work.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • i have developed and increased the skills that i did not know about. i was very bad in marketing and how to talk through to people and with the given training and support from the staff, i was more than able to perform on the things i was always worried about.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • you can imagine how nice an environment is while doing tasting and working around alcohol. one thing you might have a plus point is if you have a good sense of organs like good nose or good taste bud, then they can even hire you for tasting alcohol. one guy did get that job.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • it is upto you how organised person you are. i am a very well organised person and i had my diary of what to do next and i had a plan for each day. that did help me being able to spend time more with my mentors. office was organised though.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • as said above it is upto you how much you want to be organised. the more organised you are the more you get time to spend with bosses and mentors. all i had to do was stay with them, watch and learn and take notes, it was awesome to do so.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Travel loan

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • if it was upto me i would give all my life working for diageo. i am so impressed with the people. work environment, selection of team and the diageo brands. i mean how could you say no to the job that gives you free training and alcohol samples to take home?

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • we had a party weekend every two weekends and that did help break some ice with the mutual colleagues. we were a team of 10 and the other team were doing the same job. if you are lucky enough to get impressed by someone, you might even find a love of your life.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • it was a busy place to work but travelling wasn't that trouble. the trouble was the location is situated on the local suburbs so if you want to do shopping on your leisure time then i wish you a very good luck my friend. overall it was affordable without local amenities.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • well what night life do you expect in an industrial area? only if you ride a bike the roads down to the site is dead as a dungeon which you might be beneficial to do some lovely racing techniques. there were people who bought bikes just to do that mate.

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • people never stop drinking and if they don't then theres endless work and endless opportunities for you to progress on. now if you are a social person then you might also be invited on social work programmes like distributing alcohol and cocktail samples in festival, stations, shopping malls and many more places.
