About You
It was really insightful as a politics student who wants to go into working in politics and the houses of parliament in general. I learnt about the institution itself but also most importantly about what it means to work for a MP in the day to day running of an MPs office
I felt really appreciated and really valued as an intern. For an industry or office that will be inundated with work experience and placement requests I was really welcomed and felt valued as an individual and was given really good praise for my contribution to the work I did as an intern
Considering that the office was very busy and the staff were run off their feet the support I received was amazing. The worker that supported me was really friendly and supportive, offering advice for succeeding in the industry but also down to the small things like offering instructions/directions to different parts of the building
As a politics student the skills ad most importantly the knowledge I developed was priceless. It has really helped with my degree in terms of understaning more about the institution but also about helping me decide that I do want to pursue a career in politics once I graduate from university
The Company
To be honest at times it was a bit disorganised but I can only put this down to how big and hectic an institution it was, but as an office it was very friendly really well organised (as much as it can be) by the team in the office and I am really grateful for the structures they put in place for me
it was very busy and fast paced but it was a really great workplace environment and considering it is the parliament of the united kingdom everyone seemed really happy and relaxed and not stressed and rushed off their feet like it could be assumed, it was a very squished atmosphere however given the size of the offiuce
as much as you could be invested in a short space of time the team went out of their way to support me, train me on the job and to develop my job based skills but also my political skills too! the basics were given but i wouldnt have expected much more from a short space of time
it was very insightful because as someone who wants to work full time in not only the industry but the specific job role it gave me a great understanding about how hectic, time consuming but also fun a full time role would be and having the opportunity to try it out makes me want to do it even more
Not a lot because it is is such a big instituion and culutre varys from office to office but the office I worked in seemed like it had a good culture/atmosphere
very very valuable. Being young I have so many different career paths and options ahead of me so to be able see first hand what it would be like to work full time in the said profession really firmed up my decision to go for a career in politics, and not just elected politics but working with and for politicans on a day to day basisiu
Everything Else
Not especially as the building/institution is so vast that i only me the people working in one office
Not really, didnt really get to know them too well on a personal basis
most defiantly!! If there is any politics student who sees the mess that the political system is in but would still like to find out more and consider a career in politics I would highly recommend contacting you local MP and doing a placement with them, regardless of your political leaning it was a very worthwhile experience
