The Role
He area I did my placement for 3 years was the X-ray department. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. As a hospital the different multidisciplinary teams work In unison and it is spectacular to see how all the teams work together
I received feedback on a weekly basis through that the 3 years. This included lost of praise which made me feel very valued by the radiographer I worked with over that time
I had a placement liaison who was always there to offers support when it was needed. All the staff were always happy to help with any concerns or issues that may of arised. A yearly review was completed with the placement liaison and my tutor from university
The work flow at the royal shrewsbury hospital was quite high. There was multiple areas that I rotated through tall he dofferent workflows but you did not stop from when you walked through the door at 9 to finished at 5. As i progressed through the years I got to completely more examination on my own
This varied between years. As I progressed the more responsibility I was given. Towards the end of third year I was label to run a room on my own with little to no supervision
The skills that I learnt, benefited me as they enabled me to become the radiographer I am today. Without this amazing placement I would not of beeen able to pass my degree and what was learnt on placement related directly to my academic studies
The Company
The whole team was approachable and made me feel very welcome. They made me feel involved. The atmosphere was fun and professional
The placement was relatively well organised the only bits that were not, the issues stemmed from the university and not the placement site
All the radiographer invested a lot of time with me and almost took me under their wing to mold me to the radiographer I have become.
Subsidised Canteen
There is a fair few employment opportunities, the only thing that is lacking is the progression from being a basic band 5 radiographer. However I did get a job within the team and am now a senior
The Culture
Always asked to all meals and parties within the department.
Average cost as had to commute from Birmingham. Food and drink was relatively cheap tho
Great night life that was quite student orientated
We had a fair few out of work trips to team building exercises such as go ape
