The Role
My placement was a fantastic learning experience and really allowed me chance to put my theory learning into practice.
Practically everybody at this placement was extremely friendly and welcoming. When I finished, some staff even said that they hadn't realised I was a student.
My first mentor wasn't very helpful and I did have issues. But I discussed this with the placement manager and he took me under his wing and was extremely supportive.
I like being busy so I often looked for extra work, but the placement manager made sure I didn't overwork myself and gave me lots of good advice.
As a first year student there wasn't a lot I was able to do by myself, but everything that I was capable of completing alone I was encouraged to do so.
Massively. Placement is the best way to put learnt theory into practice and the only way to develop good skills as a nurse.
The Company
Very friendly. Relaxed and everybody was kind and approachable.
My original mentor was on leave when I first started this placement and that did hinder our ability to create a helpful relationship; however everything else ran smoothly.
I was encouraged and helped to organise my attendance to a few extra training opportunities that aren't included as part of my degree.
I'm very interested in pursuing my career in this direction.
The Culture
I was the only student but I did attend a few social events with the permanent staff.
London in general is expensive but this particular area wasn't too bad.
A few pubs but not much to do.
I was always invited and encouraged to take part.
