About You
Everyone at Spire was very friendly and accommodating. Usually on work experience I would be making teas but at Spire I was pushed in at the deep end, writing client letters, advising clients, sitting in on meetings. I was an experience that will be invaluable to my legal career. The ability to sit in many departments was also very good, I only made tea once!!
It just felt like I was someone on work experience, which I was. Everyone was friendly but at the end of the day, I was very unqualified compared to everyone else. The work I was doing, while helpful to my legal career, was work the secretary would usually be doing. Having said that, everyone has to start learning somewhere
Everyone I worked with was very helpful, if I had a problem or a question they did not make me feel silly for not knowing, they helped me to learn and grow and do the task properly. I was able to learn a lot, through both mistakes and being within in the firm. I had loads of support and never felt like I was on my own
Working at Spire has made me much more confident in my legal career. I know I can trust in my abilities to provide advice and draft letters, moreover, I learnt a lot of stuff I didn’t know. Whenever I go to work for another firm, i can and will use the skills I’ve learnt
The Company
Very structured. I knew exactly where I was going and what I was doing all week. While I didn’t know the ins and outs of the day, I know who I was with and in what department making it very easy to plan for the next day and find out where I had to go to.
Everyone was lovely and welcoming. No one made me feel uncomfortable and I was treated as if I had been a part of the team for ages. I felt relaxed and like I could ask anyone for help without fear of rejection.
As this was only work experience, I could not fully say the company invested in me. I had a good structure to my week so if I didn’t get the job at the end I would still gain something. If I had got the job I was say they invested in me 100%
I got a good insight into the legal career. I have never seen this type of law and this is where I want to be. It helped me understand what different types of solicitors do and ultimately made me understand where I was to progress to in the future.
It helped me somewhat, as I was only in each department for one day (5 days in total) I could only see a certain amount but what I did see was useful
The work experience definitely helped me decide what I want to do and where I want to be. I want to go into that type of law and this placement helped me understand that. I could a good insight into every department and what it’s like on a day to day basis
Everything Else
Voluntary experience
No. No opportunity for this but as I was only there 5 days, this is as expected
N/a no opportunities or social events
Generally I did not speak to many people in a social context. It was usually about the work in hand - as I was only there for 5 days this is as expected
Yes - great place to learn about the legal profession and really challenge yourself
