    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was all in all a very enjoyable internship. The team welcomed me very friendly and introduced me to my work. My work was always diversified and so i could see a various number of different areas of the company. It was very enjoyable to work with colleagues, who were open to any questions i had. Also the general work enviroment is great.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The colleagues welcomed me very friendly to the company and had always an open ear to my questions. Also they introduced me to their work and gave me the opportunity to help them. Furthermore the departmend organises events from time to time. So the colleagues come together and spend some time outside work.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My personal mentor helped me with any issues and supported me when i struggled with a given task. He was always friendly to me. Also he not justed solved the problem for me, but gave me guidance how to deal with any issues so i could help myself. I really appreciated his support.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Sometimes very busy with overhours, sometimes very quiet. Overall it was a good mix. Sometimes there were specific tasks that had to be done by the same day, so i had to stay longer and make overhours. Later i had the chance to reduce these overhours during a more silent time.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • 4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • It was a good insight into my further work as a mechanical engineer. I had the opportunity to have a close and intense look into an OEM, which has the highest requirements to quality. So i was well trained in what is understood by quality and how to make sure that the products you produce statisfy these requirements.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • 5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It could be organized a little better. When i came in the first day it hadn't been organized a lot. I had to organize a laptop and work wear. The work wear ordering process took its time so that i got my work wear about 3 months (!) later. HR and my boss mixed up the date of my start in the company. My boss thought i would come a month later, so that's maybe why it wasn't that organized.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They invested quite a lot in me. So i had the opportunity to go to some workshops. Not just because i needed it for my daily business, if i was interested in something i could ask if i can learn it and they taught me. Also i had the chance to develop myself in the department as i was able to switch between the different areas of the department. So i could explore everything i wanted.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a very good social scene amognst the other fellow placement students. Approximatley there were about 20 other german students in plant, which organized a lot of stuff during their weekends. Also there was a permanent who was responsible for the other interns and organized events and helped with any issues.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Chichester is one of the more expensive citys in England. The cost for groceries is on the average of England but the prices for accomodation and rent are higher. So for example you have to pay around 500 pound for a room in a shared flat. Socialising is quite nice as Chichester is a small city but you have lots of things to do.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Nightlife was all in all quite nice. In Chichester there a lot of pubs you can try and every pub is different. Some have live music, some have live sports. So there is always a place you can go. Chichester has only one night club, which is good and bad at the same time. Bad is, that you don't have a choice, good is, that everybody who wants to party is in this night club.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
