    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my three month internship at Cancer Research UK. My team was made up of 4 people and they were all very friendly. I also met people from other teams and directorates within the company. They were all willing to give me advice and guidance for my next steps.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt values by my colleagues to a great extent. I was rarely given work which I felt did not contribute in some way. My role was largely research based, looking into business acquisition. There were less admin-type jobs for me to do, so I mainly looked into new opportunities.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had a line manager and then the rest of my team acted as mentors as well. I had weekly 1-1s with my manager, and then also had a mentor. My mentor spent sessions with me every few weeks going through my plans for the future and whether to take certain jobs/look for others.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • 3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Since my role was largely research based, I didn't feel I had the largest responsibility in this role. However, I also worked on a project where I was in charge of logistics of a campaign, so I felt more responsibility and pressure. This was a nice mix, as I was not stressed.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think that the skills I developed working in the charity sector will help me in job interviews in the charity sector in the future. I have learnt all about partnerships at a large charity and this will help if I am applying for smaller charities or other non for profit companies such as start ups.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • 3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The Internship was very well organised. The internship manager at CRUK always returned calls and emails very quickly and she was very organised. We had induction days and also work shops on things such as CVs and linkedin. I felt that the organisation helped me to develop whilst here.

    Sports and Social Club

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I would love to get a job here, and will be applying for entry level positions at CRUK. I think that working for a large company and learning from people here is a great was to start your career. The atmosphere in the office is friendly and supportive, compared with some other commercial companies.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • 3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Food was quite expensive. For lunch you could easily spend about 7 pounds. The canteen is cheaper thought. I did not live in the area but I can imagine rent and food prices are very high. There are some nice parks in Angel, so in the summer it is nice to go here and have lunch.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife in angel is quite expensive, since it is in central London. At CRUK you get a staff discount at some bars and pubs of about 20%. Kingscross is just a short walk away and has some great, fun bars where you can meet friends. I think that it is expensive but a nice place to have a drink.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were sports teams such as netball and football, I think if I was at CRUK for longer I would have got involved. We also had a social sec amongst the interns who organised for us to go out. There were non sports clubs such as knitting as well. Overall, there were opportunities to get involved with
