    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Enable Therapy Services is by far the best environment I have ever worked in. Staff are friendly, welcoming and go out of there way to make you feel included and valued. The work was challenging but interesting and you really felt as if you were making a noticeable difference in the company. Pastoral care was incredible and regular, friendly progress reviews helped me thrive whilst working there.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Staff were incredibly supportive, even organising a birthday card after a few weeks, invitations to work socials and an appreciation of balancing university work that was second to none, that made me feel welcome everyday and unlike other employers I have worked with, never put overt pressure on the uni/work balance.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Management at this company is outstanding. I was able to talk honestly and openly, with my suggestions and ideas valued at the highest levels, and even given the freedom to explore my own projects and decided the direction I wanted to take. The management style is supportive and educational, helping get the best out of you, whilst also training you up in a project management role, that has left me feeling confident about going into a modern business environment.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was often very busy, with a range of projects sent to me each day, some where short tasks, whilst others were extended project, that meant I had to balance my time and plan sometimes weeks ahead.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The degree of responsibility I took on increased dramatically over the first few weeks, and on several projects I was given the lead. For me, this was a great balance as it built and developed my confidence in the early stages, so as I came to take more responsibility I was confident I knew what I was doing.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills and opportunities I learnt here were invaluable; often feeling like giving as much benefit as my degree in terms of life skills. I tackled a range of projects over different departments, that gave me not just good project management training, but also exposure to a range of different aspects of the business.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • the office was business like but very friendly; you were given a very nice desk, and able to ask for any extras of software you needed to complete projects without question. Colleges were always friendly and I developed close connections to many staff. Having said that, the environment was never distracting and I always felt i could ask for peer support in any situation.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The application and employment process was very slick and I was kept updated and informed throughout, unlike others I applied too. At the interview day I was asked to complete a prepared 30 min practical assessment, something I had only ever seen the largest graduate employers do and was well thought out. Over the course of the internship, I could see clear improvement and development in myself and the tasks i was given to complete and this helped me to thrive well. The only improvement I would give was to have been given an overview of how my internship would progress at the start.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They were incredible on this skill. They gave me corporate training and presentations I would have expected from a far larger company in the first week, and excellent induction and consistent ongoing training throughout, even paying for me to visit associate companies they worked with. Overall I have come out it with far more knowledge and examples of when i have used them.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Company Parties/Events

    Above 25 days holiday

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • After working here, i was offered a flexible part time role here, that works around my university schedule and lets me continue to develop and grow. This internship also developed my CV massively and allowed me to progress alot further in job applications than previously.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • At the company it was only myself and one other intern that year, but we were given time to chat, support each other and peer review each other which worked really well for both of us. we have stayed close friends after being given the chance to relax and socialise at several company events that were honestly excellent!

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Travel was a significant expense as the company is not centrally located in Leeds and i had to take 2 busses each day, but in the city, there were plenty of bargains and ways to subsides travel as a student, and i ended up far better off than several friends who did other internships.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife was excellent; the company provided several all expenses paid company parties which were very enjoyable, with even hotel rooms on offer for free. Outside of the company, Leeds was a very student based area with things to do every night if needed, and with good working hours, you were never too tired that you had to pass on a good event. Additionally throughout the year there were great events such as the free Leeds nigh light that was awesome to see!

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I joined several university societies which my employer actively supported and I was never placed under too much pressure that I didn't have time to do them in the evenings. Overall I had more time to complete activities than I did when I was full time in university. My favourite activity was definitely learning to SCUBA dive!
