    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was my first insight into a public relations company and I loved it. The work was rather diverse, from doing research, combining knowledge to archive I had a wide range of duties. Although sometimes there was a lack of work, the heads always looked after me and tried to provide me with the best They could do.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Despite my age everyone was rather informal and tried to include me as best as possible. They were keen to help and usually tried to provide me with the best work possible. The company put strong emphasis on experience and knowledge, nonetheless not refuting someone simply because of that, but also providing him with the opportunities needed.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • During the first days I would be instructed by one of the employees, every day another one, after one week I gained a sufficient routine to be confined with new duties around noon after having gone through my daily routines, however there was at least always one employee I could turn to for help.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Although the daily routines kept me busy for most of the morning, after having finished my work, the middays were usually rather quiet till the rest of my colleagues had returned from lunch. As a PR firm‘s involvement is rather fluctuatious, some days could be rather strenuous while others were rather tedious

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • As my responsibilities usually lied in sorting the archive, sorting the storage and doing research, my duties usually was important, however not crucial for the functionality of the firm. Nonetheless as I also was allowed to compose various texts which were later passed on, I was tried to be integrated as best as possible.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Although I consider my writing skills as improved due to this experience, my now persecuted carrier doesn’t correspond to my internship. It helped me by gaining an interesting insight into the procedures of the free market, but it also helped me to make my decision not to prosecute it further. Therefore I would recommend it for everyone who still needs reinforcement or insight

    2/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • As a PR company is rather informal we addressed each other by our first names which led to a relaxed atmosphere counterweighting the sometimes tense periods prior to deadlines. As I had access to all facilities and was provided with an own working-place as well, they did everything to let me feel an equal part of the company.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • As my internship was provided by a personal acquaintance to one of the employees, by the way nearly the only way to gain one, they made it clear that they have no clearly organised internship program, which sometimes could lead to periods without duties as mentioned above. Despite this, they took care of providing me with as much insight and giving me as occasions to improve my skills as possible.

    2/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Although they gave me a short introduction to the computer programs, I was usually just entrusted with a duty and sometimes they was a quick feedback or view of it afterwards. Nonetheless the many occasions I was able to research and write equipped me with better skills and taught me how to structure and design me writings

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 2/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • They made it clear from the beginning onwards that they only employ people who have undergone a complete career, either in humanities or equivalent. Interestingly they usually not employ people who have studied public relations as they value different insights and experiences coming together. Both most important people of the company having studied archaeology, etc

    2/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Due to its rather exclusive selection process there was only one other trainee within the company. However, they always tried to give us common duties so to strengthen and improve our relationship and skills together. As the people’s duties there rather depended upon the recent work brought up, the instability of the team made it quite difficult to made stronger bonds to them

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • As the area is dominated by embassies, companies and in the very heart of the city living there is exuberantly expensive. However, thanks to its position it is perfectly accessible and thus not difficult to be reached from nearly every district of the city. Of course if you are willing to take the 45min or so into account. A time completely moderate for a city such as Hamburg

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • As it was a area dominated by embassies and firms the night-life wasn’t that present there. But of course the city itself, which is Hamburg, has to offer various wonderful places. If you’re willing to hop on a train or bus and travel ten minutes or so, you‘ll definitively be rewarded with the amazing nightlife the city itself, however not the district, has to offer. Especially as the few bars in this area were more than expensive

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Due the rather distant relationship to the other colleagues they were no programmes or meetings we were made aware of or invited to. Nonetheless they invited us to restaurant at the beginning of our internship which provided us with a welcoming gesture and also the people themselves were always rather kind and helpful so that we never had the feeling of being unwelcome or a nuisance
