    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I found this insight week at Goldman Sachs to be very enjoyable and introduced me to the field of finance and asset management. It is a great opportunity to immerse yourself in the culture and atmosphere within the company. I found everyone to be welcoming and invested in my personal development.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • Even though I was only in the office for a short period of time, I felt as though I was treated as an actual employee. I was expecting to be treated as an intern and given menial tasks, but this was not the case at all! The firm’s culture was really open and friendly, which meant that everyone was really approachable and willing to talk to you, treating you as if you were one of their colleagues.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • Throughout my time here, I found there to be a lot of guidance provided. I was assigned a buddy on my first day, who happened to be a first year analyst, as well as a mentor to guide me throughout my time at Goldman Sachs. I felt that I could turn to my buddy with any questions I had and my mentor was focused on my career development.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • As I am currently studying economics at University, much of what I learnt during my time here will be beneficial to my degree, especially areas that focused on more technical elements of the finance sector. In addition to this, I developed a number of transferable skills, such as networking and communication.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The insight programme is extremely well structured with a good variety of time spent shadowing desks, lectures, speaker session and classroom work. The variety of activities enabled us to develop a vast range of new skills and have exposure to all elements of the business. In addition to the ‘learning’ element of the programme, there were a number of social events arranged in order for us to network with different employees.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • I found there to be a good general atmosphere amongst both the spring week interns and full-time employees. Everyone is extremely bright, driven and like minded, without being overly competitive, which created a stimulating, yet pleasant environment. There was very much a collaborative mindset amongst employees and everyone was open, friendly and willing to learn from each other.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • During the first week, we had a very comprehensive training scheme in order to bring everyone up to speed with the technical knowledge required to undertake a role in the financial sector and asset management. Although from an economics / finance background (degree), I still found this to be a very valuable piece of training.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • This insight is extremely beneficial for understanding what it would be like to have a full time role at Goldman Sachs. The time spent with your assigned team really helps you get a feel for what it is like working here on a day to day basis. Furthermore, the networking session are beneficial for asking questions about work-life balance, development opportunities etc.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • As previously mentioned, I found there to be very much a collaborative mindset amongst employees and this really epitomises the culture at Goldman Sachs. Open conversations and continuous collaboration are principles by which the company really operate on and throughout our time at GS, this was really clear to see.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • This insight is very beneficial for helping to determining a future career path and this programme helped me to solidify my intention to purse a career in the finance section and very much opened my eyes to the various opportunities available at Goldman. The activities organised throughout the programme helped me to determine whether my skills were a good match for the company and finance sector.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I was paid for my time spent here.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There were so many opportunities to network throughout this programme. There was the opportunity to meet a vast range of different employees with varying roles and positions of seniority. Whilst I enjoyed speaking to those who had reached a high level at the bank, I most enjoyed networking with more junior employees as I got a really feel of what it would be like if I took up a graduate position here.
