    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • My industrial placement consisted of an Application Engineering role where I had the responsibility of handling accounts and working with a vast variety of different technologies including both hardware and software. Having this opportunity has given me an amazing start in my career. Intel gave me a large amount of freedom to work on what I wanted with plenty of opportunities to travel abroad and even the states.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • During my time at Intel, I have been considered and treated like a full employee. Other team members have shown the same respect and courteous to me as they do to everyone else. Intel place interns as full employees with the same rights and benefits as anyone else would have.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Support through my internship has been endless with the ability to ask anyone for advice and help on anything I am working on. Intel has an open office policy where any member of staff may speak with anyone of higher rank. My manager is always to hand whenever I need him for anything from HR concerns to technical help.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was constantly given work to complete and if I ever completed work before expected I would request more for them to pass to me. Finding work to do within Intel is far from difficult with everyone wanting a helping hand.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a large amount of responsibility as an intern. This consisted of managing accounts, starting new work assets within our team, and handling workloads for timely deliverables. Intel makes you feel like a full-time employee with the same responsibilities as everyone else.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Working in a corporate environment has equipped me skills for life. You not only develop skills within the role you are assigned, but you also develop soft skills which teach you how to conduct business in a professional manner and to company policies. Technical training is given throughout the year on a vast number of different technologies which you will benefit from for years to come.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I work in a small office in the heart of London where the usual "fun" activities don't happen as the office is mainly for meetings and customer visits as it is located in a luxury building. It is laid out in an open working environment with few cubicles and confined spaces. The kitchen area had an open feel to it which engages conversation and interaction.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The overall organisation of the internship was brilliant. Days were planned out when I first arrived for introducing me into the company and with other interns. Games and activities took place so we could all interact and learn about the company and office. As interns are treated like full employees at Intel, work is given as it would to everyone else.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Intel does not hold back when it comes to training. You receive the same training as everyone else in the company. Of course, you have to complete the company policy training and after that, you receive endless amounts of specific training including 1:1, webinars, open forums, group discussions and much more.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • You are near guaranteed a place once you finish if of course, you perform to a high standard, however you may not receive a place within your team as there may not be any open positions at the time. There are a large number of places throughout the corporation you may apply to and it be highly likely you get the position.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There are constantly social events happening between interns from house parties to social sports clubs which interns partake in. In the head office, there is two social games room where anyone may relax and take a break which includes table tennis and other social games.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living in Swindon is much cheaper than other areas and you can get a lot for your money. House sharing can bring down prices even more. There is a large town that has all your essential shops as well as a smaller town that is quieter and is a nice area to socialise with friends.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There are many bars and pubs that are nice to go to after work and on the weekends. There are only a couple of big clubs one of which has just opened so it is still fairly new. As Swindon is a small place it also makes it cheaper for getting home after a night out.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Due to there being a large number of interns there is always something happening. there are leisure centres and gyms that have a variety of sports clubs and there is also football teams that are made up of Intel employees and they play on the evenings.
