    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed the Trailblazer open day at Taylor Wessing. I appreciated how a variety of candidates from different career and study backgrounds have been invited to attend. The day was scheduled and coordinated to perfection by the Talent Team, who have given attendees the chance to learn more about the Firm, provided valuable insights for completing vacation scheme applications and participate in a business game in the afternoon.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • The first indication of how much the law firm values interpersonal relationships was illustrated by the Managing Partner, This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions providing a clear and transparent overview of the firm's strategy and its core competencies. Tim Eyles focused on responding to questions raised by the attendees which was an informal way to break the ice and prompt interaction. Finally, I appreciated how some of the trainees who we had the opportunity to meet during lunch came down to greet us in the afternoon as well, which I found unique and memorable.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • Valuable support has been provided throughout the day. This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions from the Talent Team was extremely helpful and kind, providing detailed answers to additional questions I had in relation to applications. For the business game, each team was allocated to a trainee, who would supervise the conversations between team members and take notes. This provided an accurate reflection of what a group exercise would be like at an assessment center. When the winners of the business game were being revealed, we were informed of which areas all candidates had performed well in and which specific skills should be enhanced in future assessment or interview circumstances.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I was able to enhance my confidence skills by being given the possibility to engage with the Managing Partner, This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions during the Question&Answer session. It is very rare that students are given the possibility to meet a Managing Partner at such an early stage of their experience at the firm. Working in a team during the business game was a beneficial opportunity to exchange thoughts and balance opinions by aiming to achieve the best outcome during the presentation to the Panel. As a team, we practiced our time-keeping and presentation skills.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The open day was structured well, as all the sessions were adequately scheduled and timed. We were also given sufficient time to interact with different trainees during the lunch break and in the afternoon. One hour was also allocated for the business game which allowed attendees to prepare for the presentation.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • All members of the Talent Team who accompanied us throughout the course of the day were friendly and genuine. The trainees greatly illustrated and endorsed the positive aspects of the firm. I also enjoyed interacting with attendees who were at distinct stages of their academic and professional careers which represented the Firm’s approach to identifying different types of talent.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Ample insight was provided to attendees in relation to do's and don't at assessment days and interviews. The Talent Team allowed attendees to relay their experiences to the group, which was helpful to understand different points of view and observations. The promotion of the business game was a valuable opportunity to be able to confidently present in front of a panel and be prepared to answer unexpected questions.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • Simply by being presented a video of a Partner Conference held in Barcelona this summer, I understood that the firm is inspired by extremes in the marketplace and aims to achieve great things through collaboration across the board. By attending the insight day, I learnt that the firm is forward-thinking and supportive towards its clients and employees.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • The trainees provided a clear overview of how a typical day at the firm as a trainee would be like. They also provided insight into the continuous professional development provided to staff by means of training courses and seminars. Taylor Wessing also promotes social activities every week and sponsors activities which are valuable to its members of staff, such as taking part of a Marathon in Vienna to represent the Firm.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • I was able to finalize my decision of being part of the firm committed to the development of its employees and by enhancing the means of delivering high-quality work to its clients with the use of technology. Firms of the future will be oriented towards continuously reinforcing their presence in the marketplace with the assistance of technology.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • The Firm offered to cover travel expenses to all attendees. As I live in London, I did not apply for a reimbursement of my travel expenses, however, I appreciated how they did offer this to other candidates who came from further locations.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There were many opportunities to engage with trainees at different stages of their seats, but also with an Associate who had started with Taylor Wessing as a Paralegal. This was a valuable opportunity to understand how the firm values performance and talent also from within. During the presentation of our business case, a Partner and a Talent team member lead the panel which I greatly appreciated. It is very rare that attendees are given the opportunity to engage with a senior member of staff at such an early stage.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • At the end of the open day, we were brought to the cafe' area which has a breath-taking view of the entire City of London. We were given the opportunity to interact with fellow attendees and engage with trainees which we had previously met during the lunch break. We were able to discuss how the day went and address any further questions we had.

    4/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Taylor Wessing also promotes social activities every week and sponsors activities which are valuable to its members of staff, such as taking part in sports events to represent the Firm. Taylor Wessing is committed to a variety of Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives by being involved in the Arts, Social services, and Diversity & Inclusion.

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I would greatly recommend the open day to a friend as it is a valuable similuation of an assessment day. I would advise to prepare as many questions as possible before attending the event. Trainees and the Talent Team are happy to answer questions and provide further guidance.
