    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • My placement has been a fantastic opportunity, providing me with invaluable experience of what it is like working full-time within a corporate environment.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I have a great department, and I really feel valued by my colleagues. You're made to feel like a permanent member rather than an intern here for 'work experience'.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I have weekly catch-ups with my manager, which has been really helpful as I am given new tasks and projects regularly, whilst also checking the status of the current tasks I am working on. I am also able to use this time to raise any queries, or ask for any support. I also have catch ups with other members of my team to update each other on the projects we are working on together.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Generally, it has been a good balance. Some months have been very busy however, this has given me a good insight into what real working life will be like, giving me the opportunity to practice managing my workload and prioritising tasks.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was actually very surprised by how much responsibility I was given. I help to manage and run one of our training projects for the interns, which I've really enjoyed as my input and work drive the project forward.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • This experience will be so valuable for my future career, I would never have been able to develop my skills without this opportunity.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office is very open. We don't have allocated desks, so you have the opportunity to sit with different people. However, each department does tend to stick to their area.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Really well organised, I've been fully briefed on what to expect throughout my year and the various projects I will be working on. I had a 3 week handover with the previous intern, which was really useful.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • All the interns have taken part in a training programme, which focusses on qualities such as time management and effective communication. We have also had the opportunity to take part in a psychometric personality profile, which we can use to understand where our personalities lie within our teams. We will attend two more trainings courses in the new year focussing on creativity & problem solving and leading myself. I feel really grateful that Bosch has invested time and money on providing a training programme for the interns.

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • There have been interns who have returned to Bosch after their studies. However, there isn't a grad scheme in place like other companies. However, they are currently working on a programme to stay in contacted with the most talented students.

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yes really good social scene, as there are so many interns. Some departments have lots of interns whereas pothers may only have one so it depends which team you are in. Many of the interns socialise after work/on the weekend. Lots of them also share houses together,

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living and socialising hasn't been much more expensive than Uni. Obviously it costs more when you travel into London on the weekends, but rent for houses is cheaper as you are further out from central.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I live in Uxbridge and doesn't have a great social scene. There are a few pubs/bars but most people go into central London on the weekend,

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • My team are really sociable and we have done lots of activities outside work for example bowling, dinners, an awards ceremony and an HR Team day. I know other departments don't do as much outside work though.
