    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The internship gave a diverse overview of different aspects of the bank, making it both challenging and engaging. The staff were supportive and helpful.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt that I was addressing real- world problems within my branch and so was actually helping my colleagues, making me a valuable asset.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My branch manager and mentor as well as the rest of my branch colleagues were helpful in teaching me new skills and provided solutions to any problems I had.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The internship was very engaging and so I had a range of tasks to do every day. These were manageable and provided the perfect balance.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a good amount of responsibility within a framework of what was possible.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I believe the internship gave me not only valuable experience within the financial sector but also an improvement of basic life skills, including communication, working as a team and analysing and summarising information.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere whilst professional and hard working was also relaxed and comfortable. The branch at no time seemed unfriendly and I enjoyed being in such a positive environment

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I believe that whilst the overall structure of the internship provided an organised layout the scheme had enough flexibility to maintain its engagement. The flexibility also gave interns the opportunity to engage with many specific activities only available within a specific branch.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I believe that in many ways this internship scheme highly valued its interns. They are focused on giving you the tools to aid your specific line of personal development and so are continually providing you with tailored advice. It gave you a great investment of advice and experience.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Handelsbanken provides a wide range of opportunities in several spects of the bank. These are flexible so you are not restricted with one line of career advancement. It also provides great long term opportunities for advancement

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I found that in my branch I had an excellent relationship with my colleagues and this led to wonderful experiences outside of work.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living did not seem particularly expensive, neither did socialising but being in the south it is obviously more expensive than the north and less expensive than London. However, the internship was flexible so that you could decide where you wanted to live and I was therefore lucky enough to be close enough to home to live there.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The area was in a city centre and so provided excellent nightlife opportunities. It was situated very close to the local university and so many aspects of the lifestyle are associated with university nightlife.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were many opportunities to socialise with colleagues after work for specific events and I have been informed that there are local young professionals clubs to become involved in.
