    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • From initial offer through to the final day of the programme, the internship was extremely well structured and communicated. Students are allocated their own team, buddy and individual project within the division they have applied from day one; real work which can have a real impact. For me, I really enjoyed the responsibility of my project, in a professional team you learn quickly. From the perspective of a student, the breadth of immediate training and the potential qualifications on offer further down the line is really exciting.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Feedback is always on offer for those who pursue it, hard work is often rewarded in the company in many forms (e.g. Company credit recognition). The company has a culture of praising strong performance which made the work enjoyable.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My managers bestowed real responsibility and trust upon me with my project. As I adapted to the company my buddy, team and manager were always available if I had a question or query which really supported my development. The benefit of having an impactful project at Amex is that the managers want you to succeed for the team. The same can be said around the office, everybody I spoke to was supportive and immensely friendly which allowed for immediate solutions to problems.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The amount of work a student will receive is dependent upon the requirements of their project and the nature of their work. The 10 weeks flew by as I always had deadlines and work to be pushing on with; offering to help across the team if you are free is immensely appreciated. The great thing about the Amex culture is that hard work is praised and senior staff often recognise and reward the team at the end of a piece of work, arranging team social activities and events.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • My project had immense repercussions for the business, creating a proposition which will directly impact the business over the coming years, ultimately leading to an engaging and one of a kind 10 weeks. The level of your responsibility as an intern is dependent upon your project. One can always reach out for fresh responsibility and management support you to obtain your goals.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills which an intern learns are invaluable, quintessential to any analyst level role upon graduation. Amex teaches time management and a work ethic which will help with any further study.

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Within my immediate team there was a fantastic work/life balance. Management often treated the team to new experiences.
