The Role
I really enjoyed my internship. Everyone I spoke to was friendly and willing to answer any questions I had.
I felt valued as I was doing work that was necessary to the project and my colleagues would involve me with as many tasks as they could.
I was given all the support I needed and fully guided through all of the tasks I was given which was necessary because there were many things that I had not done before.
I was usually pretty busy, more so towards the end of the placement than the start. There were occasions where there were not any tasks that could be done by me, but this happened very rarely.
I was given responsibility for some tasks but more often I was working on a task with another engineer so I did not have full responsibility.
The skills I developed will be very important because I will be using them daily in other internships and then throughout my career once I graduate.
The Company
Very welcoming; I did not feel that there was anyone in the office that I would be uncomfortable approaching. Everyone was friendly and willing to help me.
Not well organised before my placement started; I only knew very last minute where the location of my placement would be, but once I got started, everything ran smoothly.
Almost every day involved learning or practising the use of surveying equipment and using technical drawings on site. I therefore spent a lot of time developing these skills.
Company Parties/Events
Very appealing. I liked my colleagues and was always given a positive view of the organisation. I would definitely want to work for the company once I graduate.
The Culture
Yes, one week there was an event for the project which was to go to the zoo for a look around followed by a barbecue and quiz before going out in the city.
I was working in Bristol so it was much cheaper than where I am used to being in London.
Seemed good but I did not experience a huge amount of it.
I am not sure that there were a large number of opportunities for this.
