    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed my internship with PwC as it gave me the tools to understand what my field of work would entail. They expected me to be competent and able to do what a normal associate would be able to do and thus treated me with respect. Overall, I enjoyed the experience.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I did feel of use to my colleagues but there were times that I lacked the technical capabilities to do some of the work. Some tasks were mundane. I feel that I have the skills to do complicated work, providing someone tells me how to do it or points me in the right direction.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given a lot of help. The staff were very patient with me and understood that I have no experience within the Corporate world. Even when I made a few mistakes the staff was able to help me rectify them without any problems and it did not bother them.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • On average, I would say that my time filled with useful work was about 40%. There were some tasks, which were so mundane I felt that I was not helping anyone at all. However, I understand that the tasks an intern can take part in is limited and the experience I did have was invaluable.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a fair amount of responsibility. I did have to double check everything I did with another senior member, even if the task was small. Overall, I was able to do tasks without constant reminders and being pestered. It let me thrive under the pressure.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • This Internship gave me invaluable skills to the work life. It helped me manage my time more efficiently and has made me realise how productive I can be. It also taught me to be professional at all times but being able to relax and be comfortable around colleagues.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The overall atmosphere was a relatively chilled one but with no time wasting. Everyone there was doing work but not in an intense manner. People were not stressed rather people were focused on the task at hand. Breaks were also crucial and important in the everyday life of the staff there.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was not very organised. The whole process was more like that I would be gone very quick so I would not be able to take part in any long running project. I personally feel that the person in charge of my timetable did not really care about how I was doing.

    2/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There were no professional qualifications. I felt that a lot of time was invested in me from senior managers and partners. Their time is valuable to the firm as well. I did not feel that I was bothering any of them and felt I was a part of the team.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Sports and Social Club

    Above 25 days holiday

    Working from home

    Healthcare from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • It is very appealing to work here since it is a massive firm with world renowned experience. It is a good place to start a career too as the work being done is so varied. The type of work is for big clients and clients from all different types of industries.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Friendship groups would be generally being popular with the younger staff members and not the older staff. Everyone was nice with each other but groups were formed and it was hard to join an existing older group unless you are of similar age. However, I did not feel left out and enjoyed it there.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Uxbridge is cheaper than central London with a nice area. The area is booming with different types of entertainment. It is the cheaper version of central London, with all the benefits. The area right now has many places to eat for clients and colleagues and is fun if you want to live there.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I was not able to attend the night life as that is not my type of leisure but from what I have been told it was not great. Central London always seems to be the place to go even when you are at Uxbridge. The journey to central London is not tough but it is still a hassle.

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I took part in charity events such as cleaning up a local farm. This is a particular interest of mine as I feel a great deal of responsibility in giving back to the community. There are many ways to give back in the form of charity or even mentoring schemes.
