About You
A really enjoyable programme! The programme lasted two weeks and was hard work, but also really enjoyable and rewarding. The first week is spent taking part in lectures and workshops based at the Teach First offices. The second week was spent undertaking a school placement, which was such an amazing experience!
Throughout my time on the placement, I felt very valued. The team at Teach First were amazingly dedicated to their roles and were on hand to answers questions and guide us. They were dedicated to our development and invested a lot of time into us. They ensured we had a great experience on the programme.
I felt very well supported on this placement programme, which is vital considering we have a practical element of the placement, teaching at a school. There was a great network of Teach First teachers, who are there to support you throughout the journey. They were great for answering my many questions!
100% developed skills for life on this placement at Teach First! Leadership and communication skills are the two that I vastly developed throughout my time at Teach First. Managing a group of young children requires you to take charge and tailor your communication. I will uses these new skills returning to university and apply for jobs going forward.
The Company
I found this insight programme to be well structured. There was good communication from the team before I joined and at the beginning of the programme I was given a detailed timetable. The training sessions during the first week were well planned. There was a smooth transition to the school placement.
I really enjoyed the general atmosphere of this programme at Teach First. I met lots of like minded people, who shared a passion for learning and teaching. I found the Teach First team to be really friendly and other students on the programme were great! During the school placement, the teachers were really welcoming and encouraging.
I felt that I was extremely well invested in! I would be really surprised to find another programme that would invest so heavily in students. The first week was purely dedicated to our personal development. We had a full timetable of workshop, lectures, team building activities and reflection session during this first week.
Great!
The insight programme at Teach First is very beneficial for understanding company culture. Teach First is fighting hard to break down the barriers imposed by social inequality and this was very interested to witness first hand. There is a high achieving culture at Teach First and everyone is there for the same goal- to improve the quality of education.
Really great content!
Everything Else
I was paid for the experience and all associated accommodation costs were covered.
There were so many opportunities to network! I had the chance to meet lots of other like-minded students, who were equally passionate about improving the education and working towards the end goal of inspiring the next generation. There was also the chance to meet many of the Teach First ambassadors and we had extensive Q&A sessions with them.
Really useful and great for understanding out more.
I found out lots about activities that teachers can get involved in. During my time spent on my school placement during the second week, I found out about the extra-curricular activities that teachers became involved in. This ranged from sporting, drama and music opportunities. Furthermore, there was the opportunity to get involve in charity events through Teach First.
Yes, I really would recommend this insight to a friend. It is an intense 2 week insight programme, however, if you are passionate about teaching and education, then this is an very rewarding experience. You will learn a lot and develop immensely as a person. It is also a great chance to discover whether teaching is really a career for you.
