    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I loved it. It was very useful, and it gave my a broad experience in banking. Both in the personal and corporate side of things. I went to see customers several times. I experienced the mortgage process from the first meeting to drawdown

  • My colleagues was amazing. I worked in a branch with 6 other people, and I felt they were my family

  • My branch manager gave me a lot of support. We had meetings frequently were we sat up a plan which we followed accordingly

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was very busy. My colleauges trusted me so I ended up doing very complex work which I really enjoyed.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • A lot. I only did filing once, the branch really trusted me and challenged me which was very good and I gained valuable experience as a result.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • It has helped me a lot. I have learnt a lot about banking, both in terms of the personal and corporate side of things. It has gived me valuable experience which will be useful when studying as you can combine the practical and theoretical side of banking

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was very nice. As mentioned a small branch where everyone was friends, and it was like a family. We talked about everything

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was very well organised, but I think this part can be improved. I visited other branches, and there was not any "programme" for the day. Which was a shame as I was used to having an organised day at my branch,

  • They invested a lot in me. They paid for the branch visits and encouraged me to see other sides of the bank

  • Above 25 days holiday

  • Very appealing. However, the salary is not very appealing as the starting salary would only be 18 k...

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was two nights out where we organised a nigh out in Manchester. However, I could not join as I live quite far away from Manchester. In general this was hard to implement as people were spread around branches in the whole North West of England

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It was cheap, as it is only a small town.

  • Not much to do

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Could be better, however the branch went out for wine tasting and network events so cant complain!
