    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Really enjoyed working at CrossCountry, the peoplw were great and the experience was wonderful.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I was treated with respect by all and felt that my contributions to the team were valued highly.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was very good at offering advice and giving the occasional push when needed.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The work varied a lot; sopme days there would be little to do, others we would be inundated with work. Towards the end of the year it began to balance out a little more.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given responsibility over the leave of train crew, had i made a big mistake.. it could have led to the cancellation of a train and significant cost to the business. I feel that the responsibility given to me was fair and real.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The communication skills will be extremely useful to me throughout both education and working life. The Work I did during my placement year helped me to secure a job with Cross Country for my final year, and hopefully beyond that too.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office atmosphere was mostly calm and relaxed, with ample opportunity to talk and have a laugh with colleagues whilst still getting work done.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The official placement structure was laid out at the beginning of the year. there were multiple meetings for updates and skills development throughout the year, as well as other opportunities to enhance my experience along the way.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was trained to the point where I could essentially step into the role of a resource planner in a weeks time. they put the level of personal training into me that would be given to a full time member of the team. The placement coordinator also had a series of development programmes that added to the role.

  • I have already attained a part-time job within the business, and will pursue further options upon completing my studies.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • amongst the placement students, a few of us met up regularly to socialise. my team would go out on a weekly basis after work too.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived in student accommodation, so its difficult to compare with private rental.

  • Birmingham is pretty good for night life.
