    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • Gained a really good understanding about all of the divisions of the firm through presentations, working on case study's and networking. Each day was very practical, engaging and informative. If you were looking to decide what division you'd want to apply to for a summer internship then this really does inform your choice. A strong % of people who attended actually changed their divisional preference after the event.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • There was a lot of networking and varied people across the business (senior management, analysts etc) who we got the opportunity to speak to and speed network with. The CEO of EMEA, This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions, kick started the event and that really set the standard. We even got to attend a formal dinner with very senior business reps at the end of the programme.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I guess this isn't' too relevant for a Spring Insight programme - but the HR team running the event were spot on, the people in the business really care about your development and if you were to work here I got the feeling you would be valued but also expected to work hard.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Really good. The mixture between networking, presentations, practical activities, tours and social events meant you were never bored during the day and each day was really engaging (2017 programme was only 3 days long). However there was a bit too much 'networking' time allocated each day, you can only do so much standing and listening and nodding, especially when the ratio of candidates to business reps is not balanced.

    4/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Active and Intense, there were a few dominant ego's there keen to impress (since the idea of hoping to be fast-tracked and noticed hangs over people's head) but 90% of the people were really good company, and the business representatives were all really approachable, refreshingly honest and seemed genuinely interested to be there and help us.

    4/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • 5/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • Absolutely. We spent roughly half a day focusing on a division, and afterwards you left knowing exactly what the division does, what an intern/grad does, who heads it, where it sits within the wider business + speed network with people across that division (senior, analyst etc) to answer any questions you have.

    5/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Flat structure Entrepreneurial Team Spirit Innovative Risk-taker HUGE Mobility - across countries, divisions. FO to BO *and* BO to FO = Basically, there's a lot of opportunities at Macquarie to make an impact. You'll get direct exposure, people will support you, but you'll be expected to work hard for it, but be rewarded accordingly and will enjoy working here.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • 5/5

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • All travel/expenses covered ahead of the the event. All I had to do was pick up my travel card from the station

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • A LOT of networking. After each presentation you have speed networking, networking in-between sessions, lunch networking, afternoon tea networking, social networking, formal dinner networking. It does get a bit tiring. I personally prefer speed networking as you get the opportunity to ask questions to new people every 5-10 minutes, whereas with other forms of networking its harder to build any rapport

    4/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • We got a lot of sessions built into the day to network, not only with business but with each other on the programme which was also a valuable tool to make friends and expand our networks. The networking sessions themselves were all varied - speed networking, lunches, social and formals. For example, after the second day we got to go for Beer, Pizza and Darts and get to know each other in a far more relaxed setting. For the third day, we attended a formal three-course dinner with senior business representatives across the firm.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • There was a session which focused on the global charitable foundations Macquarie are involved in, this was pretty interesting to learn about the other things Macquarie are involved in and also another opportunity to work with other candidates to develop some new ideas and present this back to the group.

    5/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Definitely. Overall it was really well organised, very insightful, met great people, and the opportunity to be fast tracked for an internship made it even better.
