    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed it since it helped me to lean what an It working environment is like. I learned developer tools such as sql which helped enhance my programming knowledge. I learnt about restructure process in an institution and saw the process being carried out in my placement. I also learnt how to open up a pc.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt that I was valued when I came up with ideas to design an application to view institutions details. This was for an application to show institutions computerised software products, such as nottingham trent university. I also got credit when I restarted someone’s pc since they couldn’t access the university network when working home

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given support when gaining experience about the normalisation process for an entire database structure. My line manager and mentor ensured me that I has the knowledge of the system life cycle which would help me with all and current jobs which I have. The feedback also made me become a stronger person

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • On the odd occasion it was really quiet and I wasn't busy especially during the restructure period where people were reapplying for jobs. I was busy near the application deadlines, or during the stages where I had to clean data for customers. I was also busy preparing presentations to demonstrate my applications, especially to managers and mentors

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Since I was a trainee placement student I was only given responsibility to test the phone book for Leeds Beckett , which was made in two different versions of php. I has to create a testplan and produce final results throughout my time of the placement to team leaders. I was also responsible for the application for different institutions it products

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The training and all of the skills received helped me complete my final year project on time. It also helped me to manage my time throughout my year of University, by having a set routine. Without the placement year then my planning wouldn't be good especially now in my current job.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Some days the atmosphere was very relaxed, especially near the holiday period. On a monday the atmosphere was bad since everyone liked the weekend. When changes were made to job structures thats when the atmosphere was very poor especially when people had to leave the job. When a project was complete the atmosphere was good

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Most of the time the placement had an organised structure where I would practice sql and I would complete documentation or the application as a whole. There were meetings which gave everyone an opportunity to discuss issues, projects and improvements that needed to be made. The structure didn’t have many set deadlines, since staff took holidays

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Most of the time in terms of personal development I wouldpractice sql and I would complete documentation or the application as a whole. There were meetings which gave everyone an opportunity to discuss issues, projects and improvements that needed to be made. The structure didn’t have many set deadlines, since staff took holidays

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • This was poor since the restructure left less jobs avaliable , also my family live in london and not in leeds.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was only a social scene when going to development open days

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living was cheap since it cost £360 per month not including bills or internet, in a big houseshare. This made my house very sociable especially the living room. This was because my bedroom was next to the social area of my house. Leeds is a cheap city to live in especially for houses.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I lived in Leeds, in headingley there was mostly pubs in the nightlife, where all students used to go, In the city centre the nightlife was amazing since there were lost of nightclubs. Leeds is one of the best citys for nightlife. It was great when I lived there for 2 months of the placement year

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were activities such as sports, going to the gym, which was given free for staff development purposes. I went to the gym 14 times since it was free. Activities were massages, or the walking society, where me and a few colleagues walked long distance around the surrounding leeds area
