The Role
It was an amazing experience. The company was great and everyone was helpful, friendly and willing to help at any time.
I felt as a normal member of the team. People valued my ideas despite of my "intern" position.
My manager always helped me by answering my questions and being available for me whenever he can. He was also checking my work daily and tried to supervise me in the best way possible.
The schedule was quite manageable. Overall, I had plenty of time for myself - going out for lunch, playing table tennis and going to the gym - when I wanted to. On the other side, regarding the work, if you knew how to split your tasks, it was not that hard to have time for doing personal stuff and work related stuff.
I think I had huge responsibilities for a tech newcomer, since I had access to almost all the code and databases the others had access too. I had to work on and change core parts of the system that my team was working on, and everyone believed in my capabilities and gave me this responsibility.
The skills I learnt are definitely for life and valuable. I managed to get a fantastic training for Java, by working with it daily and solving complicated tasks. Moreover, I had the chance to work with different source control systems, task management tools and software that will definitely be helpful from now on. Finally, I also managed to see how to work in corporation is and how I need to collaborate to people from different backgrounds in order to succeed in m task.
The Company
In the FICC Tech division where I interned, the atmosphere was relaxed and people were friendly and enjoyable. Everyone knew how to do their work while also having a bit of fun.
Good setup: we had a lot of trips, socials and events for the interns. We also had mentoring programs and meetings with valued professionals within the company.
I think the company invested in me a lot. I had a lot of perks, from gym membership and table tennis facilities, to events and socials paid by the company for us. I also had free access to an unlimited number of online training, while the mentoring program was also there to support me.

The Culture
Yes, people were usually friendly and nice to interact with.
The cost is quite high - it is City of London after all :). But compared to the salaries and the atmosphere you have, the balance is good.
The nightlife was amazing, whether we went out into Camden Town or Shoreditch. We had plenty of great choices and enjoyed ourselves.
Yes. The most interesting part is that you can participate in Community TeamWorks - where you volunteer for good causes on regular basis.
