The Role
It was good, lots of help from colleagues and co-workers with minimal dull sections. I would return for a full time position based on previous years offers. There is also a lot of variation in what work you on be completing during the placement; I covered roles including developer and analyst.
While I was on placement I felt that the people I worked with were very helpful. Everyone in the office was knowledgeable in the subjects that I was working on and was very ready to provide help if I needed it. Even the other interns were helpful and helped people out.
My managers were really helpful. They would provide assistance if I needed it and would be very proactive in recommending courses which would improve my performance in the future. All of my managers would also be very helpful with networking; creating the opportunities to meet people who would be able to assist me in more complex tasks
My day to day as incredibly interesting. I would often have enough interesting work on my plate to have to stay later working with the Americans on projects which were exciting. There were times when projects went around a slow phase of approvals and informing senior staff; at which point my day to day got a bit dull
During the placement I was given the amount of responsibility I felt I could take on. If I wanted to work on a personal idea that would benefit the firm then I would be able to, with approval from my manager, go ahead and work on it. The project work I was also able to take responsibility for a large section of work.
After completing the placement I was able to develop my coding skills immensely. I can now write code in 4 languages and am able to understand the concepts put forward during the more technological meetings. Coming from a maths background this is incredibly beneficial when returning to university to complete my degree
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was incredibly professional, which was to be expected. The “tech feel” was starting to grow as I left but there was no google style beanbags or slides. As an investment bank the atmosphere reflected the core business: professional, efficient and impressive. As the bank looks to attract coders then the tech feel might get stronger
The internship was incredibly well organised from an incoming perspective. There were very streamlined processes such as onboarding and training, however support while we were on placement had a hiccup as there was turnover in the staff that were in charge of running the placement. Once our new colleagues got up to speed the organisation got better.
While completing the placement in was able to take a large selection of courses for what my projects were focused on or other interesting topics I was interested in. These were comprised of both inhouse materials and a set of external vendor tools. The combination of these meant that I could train in my own time to improve my work

The future employment prospects and grad roles the Goldman Sachs offer are really good; As an intern I was automatically considered for a full time position after graduation. The contract inst finalised until the offer is awarded, but based on previous internship conversions the deal is very good and is taken by most interns.
