The Role
I had a very positive experience at Goldman Sachs, interning in the investment banking division in London. The people I met was helpful, humble and professional. In my teams at GS, there was a great atmosphere and I felt that everyone genuinely wanted to produce ambitious work. By being involved in several different projects, both working with live-deals and pitches, I gained a great understanding for the investment banking industry and I would like to come back for a full-time analyst position.
I believe the team work spirit differentiates Goldman Sachs. My colleagues were very keen on making sure I was staffed on interesting deals where I could contribute to the projects. This motivated me to produce quality work in order to learn as much as possible. I felt like my work was appreciated and it was a very rewarding feeling to see the impact in of the work I had produced.
I had two buddies and a mentor over the course of my internship. Moreover, there were informal opportunities to network to find more mentors or guidance if needed. HR was also very transparent and helpful in providing advice.
I was very busy during my internship and I found myself in a stimulating and challenging environment which developed me as a person.
The amount of responsibility depended on the size of the team and on the characteristics of the project, but generally I felt like I received an appropriate amount of responsibility.
I am studying finance as my major. Therefore, I believe it is motivating going back to university because I can understand the practical applications of the theory we learn in school. Also, I will start working within investment banking after my graduation, and I cannot imagine a better place to start my career at than Goldman Sachs.
The Company
It was a great team spirit!
The internship was divided into two rotations. Usually, interns receive the opportunity to work in both the classic M&A-side of the business and in the financing group. I appreciated being able to work in two different teams since this enabled me to learn more and meet more people.
My colleagues devoted time teaching me the tasks in an efficient and helpful manner. Even though I was working in a busy environment, I felt like everyone was very happy to meet up and give me advice when needed.
The Culture
Some of the interns I met at Goldman Sachs have become my best friends. Everyone is friendly and intelligent.
The rents are generally very high in London, but otherwise cost of living is decent.
During Saturdays, interns are not allowed to work. Then, I took the opportunity to explore London with my intern friends.
