    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I am really enjoying my work placement at The Body Shop. I have been given lots of responsibility which is really beneficial for a placement year.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I feel very valued. It may have taken a month or so to settle in (as in most jobs) But I very much feel part of the team which really helps with working life.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I sit next to my manager and opposite my managers manager. Whenever I am struggling with anything I lean over and ask for help. They are more than happy to give me some guidance.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The first month of so was not that busy , but I filled the time following online tutorials to learn a new software which I am using (Cinema 4D) Now 3 and a half months in I am pretty busy everyday which is better than being board.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I am the only person on the team that can use a programme called Cinema 4D. So the jobs I am given can only be done by me (unless outsourced)

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I am increasing my photoshop, indesign and illustrator skills as I am using these programmes everyday. Learning Cinema 4D is really going to help with my rendering in the final year of uni.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Really friendly. Everyone is to approach and everyone is happy to help. The fact there are so many interns makes it easier to build relationships with different departments.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Really well. The transition week from the old intern to myself was extremely helpful and helped with settling in. We have HR sessions where we learn about graduate schemes and life after uni. They also help to develop our skills.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I have had the opportunity to go to Bergen in Norway to help fit a new store. The company are happy to expense travel to and from companies which the TBS work with, such as manufacturers and design agencies. This has really helped develop my skills.

    5/5

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The Body Shop offer a graduate scheme. I am not sure if it is the best thing for me, as I would quite like to explore other areas of design before settling in one area. But it is nice to have the option of The Body Shop

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • 3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • In costs me £73.40 for a monthly travel card to get to and from work. I live in Forest Hill (Zone 3) and work in East Croydon (Zone 5). My rent is pretty reasonably I pay £600 for rent, bill and internet per month. London is a pretty expensive area to live but it is great fun.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I haven't been out in East Croydon and don't think I will. There is so much to do in London and I am taking advantages and going to all the gigs I possibly can!

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • TBS do a volunteer scheme where you can take a couple of days out of work to do some volunteering.
