The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement year, PwC is a great place to work as the people are great and really friendly. The work is interesting and the company gives you so many opportunities.
One of the great things about PwC is that they do not differentiate placement students from associates, from the beginning on placement I was treated just like any other graduate.
I had a really great manager who went out of their way to help and support me through my year. Although as I worked with more people and teams across the wider PwC this allowed me to grow my network with more people who always gave me guidance throughout my year.
This changed throughout the year depending on the time of year and which project I was working on. Whenever I was on a project on client site we were always busy working towards milestones and approaching Go-Live dates therefore additional work was required which meant some late evening working with the team. However generally if I was working in the PwC office I was always busy although some days were not as fast paced as I'd like them.
Again this was depending on what and who I was working for at the time. Throughout the year a had a number of opportunities to take ownership of work which was entrusted on me. Although one of the great thing about PwC is that I developed huge network who were always there to support me and assist me if I needed.
The skills and knowledge I learn't and gained throughout placement have been a huge benefit to me in my final year of University, assisting me with dissertation ideas and project work.
The Company
I would say the general atmosphere would depend on the team you work with. The atmosphere on a Friday was always very positive and fun as everyone was back from client site and looking forward to the weekend. However if your not on a project based away the atmosphere is the office during the week is not always that great.
This is where I feel PwC could improve their placement scheme. At the beginning it was very organised with training and work shadowing all arranged. However once I was out of training there wasn't much organised however as I got to know people I was able to find myself work and get put on a project.
As a placement student I had a lot of initial training which was helpful for understanding how the firm worked. However over the course of the year I wasn't given many chances for specialist training (there are many opportunities for graduates), despite this I learn't invaluable skills from working on client site as I had managers who were intentional about helping me develop and expand my knowledge and skill set.

The Culture
As a placement students we were always socially both inside and outside of work. Within the PwC technology associate community there were a number of events over the course of the year. As a wider community PwC hosted social charitable event including annual black tie dinner, Christmas party and summer BBQ.
Where I was based on placement was reasonably priced to live in.
The city has a great nightlife area.
PwC host a number of events outside of work that anyone can get involved in.
