The Role
The role was both challenging yet enjoyable, for me the people that worked there and the level of exposure to audit really made this enjoyable. By working with such great people even if there were bad days there was always a good team around me willing to help. The role performed is that of a first year grad and this meant that I wasn't just pigeon holed into a pointless project and was always doing something productive.
At the end of every job feedback is given out, this really helps with improving but also serves as a good way to see where people valued you. Hard work does not go un-noticed and it is rewarded in recognition awards too.
This is not something anyone should worry about at PwC. They have a strong culture of teaching the people below them and this is evidenced throughout the senior staff too. People are always willing to help and going in there is no expectation of prior knowledge as some people are from different degree backgrounds.
Audit can get very busy, when you couple this with professional exams things can get a bit hectic. It is definitely manageable to an extent but if you don't put the extra hours in it will mount up. There is also flexibility in the job if you pre plan and ask managers as no one really minds so long as the job is done and made up another time.
Exactly the same as a first year grad. We were inducted alongside them and then proceeded to receive the same treatment and opportunities as them too. I can't fault this at all.
My time management has increased ten fold and is something I am able to bring into revision now. I am also inherently more confident due to the fact that the role forces you to be. The experience is invaluable and it really makes you appreciate how much time you have in university and capitalise on it in the future.
The Company
Although serious at times my business area was very easy going and were often having a laugh in the group area. There are lots of social opportunities at PwC and this adds to the atmosphere when then working together again.
Unlike other big 4 companies they allow you to start your professional exams on the placement year and the process seems to have been ironed out to a point of seamlessness. Even the entry and exit processes are well thought out with a lot of support provided.
We were heavily invested in with our exams and training all covered. They take the view to keep you there after and this shows with the full level of training given to a grad also provided for the placement students.

Got a job and signed the offer, definitely where I want to go back to.
The Culture
Very active social scene with the graduate intake all going out together and getting together to do things. There are monthly socials and new joiner socials on too so there is no shortage of things to do after work.
Birmingham is not the cheapest in the town centre but living at home I was able to avoid this.
Birmingham is a great city and is spoilt for laces to go out for just drinks or night out and can be done on a budget.
Plenty of these as mentioned above with additional days off being allowed for charity work.
