    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my placement, feeling part of a team working towards and end goal was very rewarding.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt totally valued by my colleagues knowing that the came to me for support when I knew the specific domain knowledge that they didn't know made me feel very valued. As well as asking for my support on a certain task,.including co teaching a code academy course.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was supported by my supervisor speaking daily in Standups as well as frequent meetings where we evaluated my progress.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • it was down to us to decide our own deadlines with features as such we dictated the busyness however there is always work to do in terms of refactoring and adding new test cases.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • As previously mentioned I was given equivalent responsibilities as my other colleagues who were full time employees meaning that I worked on a similar feature they could have been worked on by them.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Both technically and verbally I have grown vastly. Understanding and watching how different colleagues interact with higher and similar levels of professionalism, I tried to adapt my verbal communication to match this too. Technically I gained a vast amount of skills in varying languages and tools that previously i used very little.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Atmosphere is key for me, and it is amazing. There's always something fun going on whether it be an organised event or just playing table tennis to playing FIFA on the Xbox consoles we have. There's always stuff to do to get away from work and clear your mind.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was incredible well set up, with lunchtime talks and events as well as intern drinking events and group exercises it was great fun and always felt supported.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They invested greatly having the support and want from higher executives for everyone to learn really helped the ethos of learning which is great. They invested a lot of time to ensure that I understood every aspect.

  • Very appealing I even got a job with them next year!!!

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Absolutely there were loads of opportunities to get drunk.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • A pint cost under a £5 but not too much cheaper. Definitely a difference than the student union.

  • Didn't really go to many clubs but there's many bars around.

  • There are loads of activities to get involved in it's just finding those groups.
