    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed my time at Zebra Technologies. The work environment was good and I was treated as a normal employee rather than an intern.I was handled real responsibility and was given the opportunity to travel to two countries on project related work.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Given the position I held (which was crucial to day to day running of the business) and from the feedback I received from my colleagues,I felt valued. Those close to my team and I definitely valued the work that was being done but sometimes different branches of the company were demanding(as they weren't familiar/didn't fully appreciate the work needed to be done in the background to facilitate their request)

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • There was a good support system at Zebra. The senior leaders and managers were fantastic. There was also a tight knit feel within teams in Zebra, which was re-assuring. The HR team were also brilliant and were always open to help,if there were any issues.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was extremely busy throughout my time at Zebra. The change in the structure of my team contributed to this.Whilst I welcomed the responsibility, the daily workload, added to my eagerness to make an impact meant I was overworked at times. This was addressed late in my placement year.

    2/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • From the beginning, I was responsible for the maintenance of two inboxes which was imperative to ensure the effective running of daily business processes. My responsibility automatically rose after team structural changes from a regional role to a global role. I was a key member in the merger project that took place at the time. During my time at Zebra,I was also relied to complete several reporting tasks for various levels of management. Finally, solely representing my team on two occasions of external auditing also reflects the trust and responsibility which I was given.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have come to terms with my abilities within a professional environment, discovered my strengths and pinpointed my weaknesses. The placement was very positive and has now given me the self - confidence that I can apply my skills in any environment. Moreover, the different projects and activities undertaken during the placement has meant that I have been able to engage with and appreciate workers and their different roles in the company. In general, the placement has provided me a great insight of the workplace which I am very grateful for. Zebra is a great place to progress and I recommend the company to anyone who enjoys a good work culture and wants to challenge their skills.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was the perfect balance of fun and professionalism. There were fun activities from time to time and events which you could look forward to.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • There was a dedicated HR mentor for the interns. The team also did best to give mini projects to the interns so we could collectively make a positive influence on certain aspects of the company.A particular highlight was presenting to the VP of the company. The day to day work was under the responsibility of the line manager.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Much of the training was simply from hands on experience at work. At the beginning, the company ensured a 2 weeks handover period with the previous intern to help me settle in. There were also chances to take part in cultural training throughout the year. The company was also open to adding your skillet to make existing work efficient(i.e if you knew a particular software, they may choose to incorporate this). The biggest investment was in terms of the travel as the company allowed me to take part in global projects.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?

    Working from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Zebra is a great place to work and the company does very well in making each employer feel important in the workplace.Should the right opportunity arise,I would definitely return to Zebra.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Colleagues got on well. There are a few good eating spots around the office( expenses team lunches are the best!).

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • There is a Tesco nearby the office and the canteen had reasonable prices. The area itself is known to be expensive, but I was only ever there for work as I commuted from Reading.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nightlife scene is not the best ,as the area is fairly remote but surrounding locations of Reading and Maidenhead compensate for this.

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I wasn't involved in any activities outside of work. The volunteering stance Zebra had was very encouraging and there were rewards for certain hours of community work.If I returned to Zebra I would get involved in this aspect.
