    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Thoroughly enjoyed working at Sony, everyone were very friendly and helpful. Within a few weeks I was settled in and got used to to the environment.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Extremely, I was given nearly the same responsibilities as my colleagues, I was not expecting this to be the case.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The right amount of help was given, not too much but not too little. I wasn't spoon fed. A lot of learning was on the job. I was given basic guidance and as time went by, gradually developed more understanding.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Busy periods came in waves, during month end I was very busy. However, in between it wasn't that busy. But this gave us the opportunity to develop our month end processes to be more efficient.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • As mentioned above, I was given more than expected. Nearly matching my colleagues.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • This year has taught me many things, but the main one that I will be able to take into my degree and future career is definitely 'attention to detail'. This year has taught me that it is very important to check and be confident with the information you give. Whether that be a presentation or through email. Always think ahead about what questions will be asked from the information you have provided and make sure you're able to answer them.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Being in a finance department, the atmosphere will naturally be more quiet and serious. However, my colleagues and myself still manage to find times to have a laugh and enjoy ourselves. Everyone is very friendly!

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very well organised! The backbone of the program was looked after by HR and they ensured that what we were doing would be helping us develop.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • As mentioned, a lot of learning was on the job. I was given a lot of help and support. I am now very proficient with Microsoft Excel and SAP.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Above 25 days holiday

    Working from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Apart from my department, I networked with other employees and manager. I am confident that if I head back, I'd be given the opportunity to work there again.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • YES. Us interns would always go for lunch together or we'll go the gym together. Out of the office, we would head to the pub on Friday and go out as a group during the weekends

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Surrey is not a cheap area for full time employees, let alone students. However, house sharing is a great way to cut costs. It also gives you an opportunity to socialise at the same time. Also, Weybridge is only a 25mins train ride away from London, so you can head on on the weekends.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Nighlife was rather quiet. However, London is not and it's only 25 minutes by train which is very convenient. You also have the spoils of Guildford and Kingston which are student areas.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes, my colleagues and myself would often organise socials such as Bowling and night at the pub. As well as that, we also have a group that goes and plays 6-a-side football from time to time.
