The Role
Challenging work. I have learned a lot and whenever I had questions my mentor was available and willing to help. I was surrounded by very smart people, and I feel I progressed a lot during this summer.
My opinion mattered when we were designing the product. In general, people are very friendly and the age (rank) of everyone doesn't matter.
My manager was a hero. He was available all the time, and gave me very good advice. I liked how the advice was always oriented towards making me learn how to deal with similar issues in the future rather than just fixing the problem instantly.
Metaswitch has a lot of activities outside of work (footbal, basketball, bridge, board games, table tennis etc). It depends on you to balance work with taking part in all the activities.
I think it was good that I did not have much responsibility. As an intern, I wouldn't want to be put under a lot of pressure.
My networking knowledge improved greatly. Also, I got experience making low-level and high-level design for a Metaswitch product. Very useful internship! You basically do what a new starter would do.
The Company
Very relaxed and friendly. We have cookies, biscuits and fruits.( in limited supply however) We had cake once to celebrate an employee's 30th year of working for Metaswitch, which was really cool and shows that Metaswitch cares for its employees.
Very flexible. You can choose start and end dates. The project you will have depends on the length of your internship.
All the interns had optional training sessions about how to become more creative in a non-creative environment.
