    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Challenging work. I have learned a lot and whenever I had questions my mentor was available and willing to help. I was surrounded by very smart people, and I feel I progressed a lot during this summer.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My opinion mattered when we were designing the product. In general, people are very friendly and the age (rank) of everyone doesn't matter.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was a hero. He was available all the time, and gave me very good advice. I liked how the advice was always oriented towards making me learn how to deal with similar issues in the future rather than just fixing the problem instantly.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Metaswitch has a lot of activities outside of work (footbal, basketball, bridge, board games, table tennis etc). It depends on you to balance work with taking part in all the activities.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I think it was good that I did not have much responsibility. As an intern, I wouldn't want to be put under a lot of pressure.

    2/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My networking knowledge improved greatly. Also, I got experience making low-level and high-level design for a Metaswitch product. Very useful internship! You basically do what a new starter would do.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very relaxed and friendly. We have cookies, biscuits and fruits.( in limited supply however) We had cake once to celebrate an employee's 30th year of working for Metaswitch, which was really cool and shows that Metaswitch cares for its employees.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very flexible. You can choose start and end dates. The project you will have depends on the length of your internship.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • All the interns had optional training sessions about how to become more creative in a non-creative environment.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Lots of activities. Lunch together, sports day, drinks.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Pretty high. London is not very cheap. However, better than central area

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • No nightlife

    1/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes, Metaswitch has lots of other activities. It is great you get to know everybody.
