    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my 3 month internship with Expedia because of the breadth of exposure and responsibility I was given, and the work I was doing had a real business impact on the organisation! The work life balance was also great and there is definitely a work hard - play hard culture in the work place. We were in charge of our own schedules, and as long as we delivered on our tasks, we were given the freedom to work both however we wanted and wherever we wanted

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone was willing to take time out of their busy schedules for catchups, and entrusted me with projects, which made me feel really valued in the function I was in. In addition to this, colleagues would also come up to you to find out more about you and even ask for your opinion on certain issues. During meetings, we would also be encouraged to share our thoughts and ideas, which definitely made me feel valued by everyone at Expedia!

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Weekly catchups and monthly development catchups were provided to ensure that I had the proper level of support and guidance needed to excel in the role I was in. My supervisor was incredibly helpful by providing me with the room needed to develop myself when required and providing assistance as well. An example of this would be during weekly catchups, my supervisor would always ask if I needed assistance to be able to get my work done or if my workload was too heavy. In addition to this, my supervisor also provided me a list of people I should put in some time with to learn more about the business and their respective functions. This really sped up my learning curve and made it alot easier to schedule follow-up meetings that were required to complete my project!

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • 5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The level of autonomy and responsibility provided unto me during my placement was second to none, and I had the opportunity to present my final project to the entire business function at the end of my internship, which shows how much responsibility and trust they provide to us.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The overall atmosphere in the office was exciting. The way desks are positioned encouraged interaction and active discussions within the office. In my function, weekly birthday celebrations were the norm and there was loads of laughter and banter. All in all, it was a very fun place to work in and there was always some buzz and chatter happening somewhere in the office. If you wanted a quieter place to focus , you could always move to a room!

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The overall process was incredibly smooth and quick. With my other internship applications, I had to wait close to 3 months for the outcome. However, with Expedia, the whole process (from application submission to outcome) took less than a month! In addition to this, the emails and information provided was very detailed and the start/end dates were flexible. Lastly, there were intern-specific socials that were organised that allowed for network building and getting to know different parts of the business from a unique perspective!

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • As the organisation is growing at such a rapid pace, they are constantly looking to hire people and promote them very quickly as well as long as you perform well! The level of opportunities available at the organisation are vast, which make it a very appealing proposition to join them upon graduation. Lastly, transfers towards other departments and development opportunities in different functions are encouraged, which aids career development and exposure. All of this makes for very appealing future employment prospects within Expedia.
