The Role
Had a great summer working here, best job I've had so far.
My colleagues allowed me to work on their projects and trusted me with various tasks.
I was given a full induction into the IT department, where I was shown the various procedures used by the IT department at Egger.
I had many different projects to work on- from organising a recycle collection of old IT equipment to configuring new IP phones for users. I was also given the opportunity to work on the IT support desk, where I solved various problems sent in everyday by employees from all over Egger.
I was given full responsibility of organising a collection of IT equipment and also a rollout of a new multimedia software to users.
Time management skills and working as part of a team be especially useful in industry.
The Company
Very positive, I had no issues settling into the company and whenever I had a problem someone was willing to help. Everyone was very social. If a serious problem arose everyone could cooperate and solve it as a team.
I was given a starter pack which answered most my questions, and I also had the email address of a member of HR and my manager's email if I had further questions.
Apart from the initial training given in the office, I was invited to two group training session which greatly improved my understanding of the way Egger operates as a company and the way they use IT.
Even though my summer placement was in the IT department, I was given the chance to shadow a chemical engineer. Egger offer a year long chemical engineering placement which I hope to apply for in the future.
The Culture
I quickly became friends with my colleagues and could talk to them easily.
There is a canteen for employees which sells very cheap food. There's also a large Tesco just down the road. Newcastle city is a 25/30 minute drive away.
Cannot comment as I did not go out in Hexham, however, Newcastle (25/30 mins away) is fantastic for a night out.
I was told about many different activities and events at discounted prices. They ranged from theatre performances to football match tickets.
