    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my placement at Egger. It was challenging for me, but it didn't take me out of my depth. I would recommend a placement/internship with Egger to anyone. I found that it has taught me many valuable skills that will be transferable to other jobs.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt extremely valued. I tried to help out as much as possible with daily tasks and I believe that I helped with the workload so that one person was not left with all of the work. I also wasn't just left to make cups of tea! I was given specific jobs to do.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was given a large amount of support. I also was offered help at any point that it was needed. I never once felt unsupported or alone. I was very impressed by the support I received.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was very busy doing lots of different jobs and tasks. It was a busy office and I tried to fit in and work at a good pace to ensure we managed to keep up with the workload. I wasn't bored during my placement and kept looking for more things to do if we had finished certain tasks.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a small project to do myself, but apart from that I just helped with the day to day jobs that we needed to do in the office. I did not mind this as I felt like a real member of the team by helping out with the real work that they do on a daily basis.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I believe that the skills are invaluable! I think I have learnt a huge amount during my time at Egger and I will be able to use these skills in any situation, be it a job or daily life, in the future.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office was chatty and fun but we all knew when we had to get work done and that you can't sit around all day! There was a fantastic balance between the two. I never once felt awkward or too quiet and everyone was so welcoming and chatty.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I started in the office straight away and felt like a part of the team from the very beginning. I was given training and shown many different aspects to enhance my placement experience. I didn't feel as though I was just a temporary member of staff.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There wasn't much room for personal training and development outside my normal work hours and my normal job role. I think if I had a longer placement I would've liked to be able to go on a training course or similar to enhance my skills even more.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I think that Egger is a fantastic international company to work for with some amazing perks. I would highly recommend working for them if you have the lucky opportunity! I think what they stand for and how they conduct their business is exceptional and I would jump at the chance to work for them.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I only met fellow students on my training. However, I thoroughly enjoyed making friends with my office colleagues and would say I will be friends for a long time with them even though I have currently only known them for a short amount of time.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I was living at home so I had no real living costs, as I was not having to rent a new property. Socialising here is very cheap and there are plenty of restaurants to go to and also bars or pubs to meet your colleagues at.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There are pubs and bars, but there are not many clubs etc. I would say that the nightlife is slightly lacking. However if you venture 30 minutes into Newcastle city centre there is a huge amount of nightlife. So you have to choose if you want to stay with just pubs etc or if you would like to go on a night out in clubs.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I didn't have many opportunities through work as I was only there for a short amount of time. I know that there are always different out of work activities that are advertised on the work website for people to participate in and if I had been working there for longer I would have taken part in as many as possible!
