    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • A really engaging and diverse experience. I felt I learnt a lot and it was kept very interesting throughout. The first week of insight was a valuable support to the second week spent in a school. Getting to teach a lesson is the best experience for teaching that you can hope for.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • The value of the candidates was emphasised throughout. We were made aware of statistics proving how in demand we would be as STEM teachers in schools. The fact that we were given a wage and were well looked after throughout by Teach First and our school showed how much value is placed on candidates.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • Very well structured and no question went unanswered. The team at Teach First were always on hand to answer any questions we had in both weeks of the programme. It was very useful that most of the staff had done the course that we were on and had been through the LDP, it gave their answers to our questions more depth and understanding.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Invaluable skills that can be applied to any avenue of work. I went to four other different places of work throughout the summer and each place gave me compliments on skills that I had practised at Teach First. People who I met in the world of work who have done the course couldn't speak highly enough about how good the LDP is due to the skills you gain.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Very well structured, the first week was full of information and the second week was a great hands on experience. There was a very healthy blend of people coming in to talk to us about their experiences, working in groups to achieve tasks and reflecting on our own abilities and potential areas for improvement.

    4/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Good throughout. There was a shared goal amongst everyone and it was evident to see. The leaders of the programme were extremely passionate and very knowledgeable. I felt the atmosphere was slightly soured when we had a talk from one of the heads of Teach First whose anti-private school stance made some people feel very uncomfortable.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They invested in us highly as our accommodation costs were met, a degree of travel costs were also covered. We were also paid a wage for our time. On the second week when visiting a school, our hotels were all booked and paid for on our behalf. We were given useful freebies and all equipment that we could have needed was supplied.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • It's a very different experience to what I imagine the majority of the LDP would be like. It may have given us some insight into the Summer Institute but as for being a teacher, we only had the one lesson. In a two week insight programme this is really as much as can be expected however. Very good as it's own experience, I don't think it is designed to show us what the LDP is like.

    2/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • It gave us a very good insight into the ethos of the company and the values that are important to it. As part of the application procedure we had to demonstrate good knowledge of the company culture and so to get to the stage of the insight programme we had to be rather clued up on what is expected of the Teach First staff.

    4/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • It certainly aided all of us to realise whether teaching and all that it entails is what suits us. Some people who really weren't sure about teaching became very certain. And some people who thought they wanted to teach changed their mind. In this regard it is a very well designed course.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • £250 per week, travel expenses from outside London, and accommodation costs in week 2

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There were a few good opportunities in that regard and all employees were friendly and approachable.

    4/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • Networking opportunities were excellent. There were people from all industries with a wealth of different experiences many of whom who had done the Teach First LDP course and had many positive things to say about it. It was also very useful for networking with our peers as there was plenty of time to get to know each other.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • There wasn't really any mention of this, however I don't feel it was needed anyway.

    1/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • It was a very good and worthwhile experience that I really enjoyed!
