    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my internship. I worked in the Corporate Responsibility team with some really great and supportive people. The work was challenging but gave me enough room to be able to go around the business and network.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt valued by my closer team. They were able to see what I was producing, and were always there to give me feedback. They didn't treat me like a temporary intern, they really took me in and helped me develop.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My line manager really supported me throughout my ten weeks and gave me guidance whenever I needed it. He really pushed me, and gave me a number of opportunities to see other aspects of the business.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was fairly busy. A lot of the time, I was travelling to different sites, or to some of E.ON's biomass plants/wind farms which I really loved. I also went to a lot of meetings with my line manager, which was a great experience. On days in the Office, it was up to me to make sure that I had enough to be working with, and I'd always book in time with people from different departments to ask them about their roles. People were very willing to go for a 30 minute coffee!

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was basically helping my line manager with his job, so that was quite a lot of responsibility. He trusted me to get on with what he asked me to do.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • They will really help me. My time with E.ON has started my career path. I have learned what I do and do not enjoy, how a big business functions, what is involved in all the different departments. I've also gained so very valuable skills in communication and team work, to name a few. It has really boosted my confidence, and will help me when it comes to Grad Scheme applications.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was dependent on the day, but most of the time it was really lively. I was positioned near Internal Comms, who were a great bunch of people. It was very possible to work, but it wasn't like anyone was afraid to pipe up and strike a conversation. Everyone was getting on with their work, but there was a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere - I didn't expect this in a big corporate environment.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • I'd say it was really well organised. The HR team were really on it, and my line manager has had interns before so he took it in his stride. I always had something to do, and I was always giving feedback to HR as they were really keen to make sure I was having the best experience possible. The set up was great as it gave me a lot of flexibility, and enabled me to do my own thing and develop outside of the tasks I'd been given.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company invested in me more than I could've imagined! Outside of the projects I was given, I was always travelling along with a colleague to go to a meeting of some sort, or to see something I hadn't seen before (like a wind farm). Of course this costs money, and wasn't something that an intern should necessarily have the opportunity to do, but I was always off doing things which really helped me to learn. I got to see what it would really be like to work with E.ON, and the way they really invest in their employees.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    National Travel

    Working from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing. E.ON offers interns the opportunity to Fast Track onto the Graduate Scheme. I was supported through my application process, and was offered a job within Finance at the end of it (despite doing my internship in Corporate Responsibility). E.ON takes people in, and if they think you're a good fit and a hard worker then it's in their interests to keep you, and this was very apparent. They really want to push and challenge people, while seeing them develop. Employment prospects at this company are really great.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • This is the only problem I really had with the internship overall. E.ON takes interns across the sites, but only seems to take one per department. For this reason, there were few other interns in the office. Later on, year in industry undergraduates joined, but the Office is so big that it was hard to actually get to know people. I think this would be hard if I'd been there longer, as it would've been great having more people my age in my team.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I was based in Coventry, but I was able to commute in from where I live which was great. My boss was aware of my Commute and always let me work from home on a Friday if I wanted to. However, talking to people suggested that Coventry was quite a cheap area, and being right near Warwick University, I imagine that there are a number of places to go and socialise. Also, Coventry is an hour train away from London, which is ideal.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Again, I'm not sure as I didn't really experience it. But, being near Coventry and Warwick University, I imagine that there are good places to go at night.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Some undergraduates organised activities, but a lot of the time it was at a different location so it was hard to get to. However, if I had been there for longer I would've definitely invested more time in getting to know the other undergraduates, and making plans with them.
