Software Engineering Intern Review

I was given a technically challenging project that I was allowed to design and plan the architecture for from the ground up. I was able to work with a lot of interesting technologies and make interesting and important decisions.

My mentor and manager made me feel extremely welcome and helped me integrate with the way the team was already working. I was part of the sprint meetings like other team members and learnt a lot by talking to them.

My mentor was extremely supportive and helped me design my project and taught me an immense amount about software engineering through code reviews and informal chats. My manager, who was part of the target for my project, helped a lot with finding clear goals to achieve every week.

I had goals and work to achieve every day but also had time to attend events or meetup groups to learn more about Bloomberg or other technologies I am interested in.

I was able to set my own issues during the development of my project, as well as design my system, which gave me a lot of flexibility and independence. I would usually set out to do something on my own and only go to my mentor as a last resort, which I feel I was allowed and even encouraged to do.

My understanding of software development concept has vastly improved, which I feel will aid me immensely when I return to my studies. Furthermore, I feel I have developed my teamwork, social and networking skills.

Everyone was very friendly, open and easy to talk to - the atmosphere was one of the best parts of the internship.

There were lots of events for interns, all of which were well organised and valuable.

We had a week of training at the start of the internship where we were taught various proprietary and open-source technologies, which was well organised and engaging.

I've already applied to return to Bloomberg as a full time employee and hope to be accepted, which I would very much like.

London is prohibitively expensive, but this is to be expected.
