    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The internship has been a great experience of PwC. Seeing how the systems work and getting familiarised with the audit process. It has also been a very good opportunity to meet people in the firm and ask about their experiences to see whether the graduate scheme is the correct thing for me to do after I finish and graduate from University.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Over the internship, I have been very trusted by managers and colleagues to carry out tasks on the audit. I have been trusted to talk to the client and also been given extra tasks to do when it was felt I would be able to do them. My colleagues were also very open to being asked questions about these tasks in order for me to understand them before carrying them out.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My managers and supervisors were always available for questions and they never made me feel bad for asking questions. They were also very willing to come with me to talk to the client if I needed support but were also willing to let me take the lead in these conversations to find the information that I needed to.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There were always a variety of tasks to do and my managers and supervisors would always check that I had enough to do and would give me some more work if I needed it. Equally however they were also willing to do things themselves if I felt I had too much work to do. They were also very understanding and engaging in asking how I was getting on with the work I had to do.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I felt very trusted by my managers and colleagues throughout the internship and I was given a level of responsibility that I felt happy with. When work was given to me my manager would ensure that I understood what was needed and let me ask any questions that I needed to before I went to the client with this background knowledge and found out the necessary information to carry out the task.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I believe that the skills developed on this internship will help me in my degree course, being accounting and finance, and also help me in my future career as even in six weeks I have developed a lot of understanding around accounting principles and audit procedures which will be useful in any future job.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I was rarely in the office through my internship but when I was everyone was very open and friendly. There was also a variety of social events put on that we could attend in order to meet new people from around the firm and ask them about the sort of work they do in order to compare to my role.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was very well planned. There was also a three day induction at the beginning in order for us to meet the other interns and learn a lot about PwC before we went into the regional offices and began working. There was also a regional induction which was very helpful in getting us used to these offices specifically.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There were a variety of trainings available to me throughout the six weeks, some were compulsory and completed in the first few days and then beyond this the entire training library was open to us. There was also some specific training that became available on certain jobs which were very useful in providing context about certain areas of the audits.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The future employment prospects with PwC are extremely appealing. From the internship I have been able to ask about the prospects of different lines of service, different locations amongst other things. It has been a great insight to be able to talk to current employees about their career journeys with PwC and see the different routes people have taken.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • All the other people on the internship have been great and very open for social events. When in the office we have tried to meet up for lunches and also drinks in the evenings. Overall we all get on very well and we also help each other in these situations with areas we are finding challenging.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Overall, the cost of living has been quite expensive. The accommodation I was staying worked out at one hundred and thirty five pounds per week. Food has been normal prices and I probably spend around £50 per working week. However lunches and socialising are very expensive in Birmingham, with prices fast approaching the same as london.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I did not really go out in the evenings except to pubs with friends but on the whole these were very good experiences and there are also enough different venues around to keep trying something new. Birmingham is also a University city and as a result if you know some students they can usually point you in the right direction.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were many opportunities for social events and sporting activities such as football, badminton, squash and many others. This was advertised openly to all skill levels and anyone who was available to go along. On the whole this makes the company feel very friendly and gives it a feel that anyone can know everyone.
