    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have thoroughly enjoyed most aspects of my internship. It was great to work with a company who truly cares about their employees and makes an effort to make everyone feel part of the company. The internship itself was also great - very varied and challenging, and has taught me a lot that I will use in the future.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • From the very beginning my team tried to be as welcoming as they could be - both inside and outside the workplace. They'd talk to me and get me involved with what they were doing and explain what they were doing in my first few weeks, as well as inviting me to outside of hours events like team dinners.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The support and guidance given by my manager was great. They were always available if I needed some guidance, and the support given was always very helpful and concise. They were also very good at not spoon feeding me answers, but helping me reach my own conclusions but with some guidance.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • From the middle-end of my placement I had a great balance of business. I had lots to do but not in an overwhelming way, and was enjoying what I was doing. At the beginning I feel there was slightly too little to do and I found myself unsure of what to do with myself. But as the projects picked up, this got better.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given so much more responsibility than I expected. I was very surprised at the start with the level of responsibility I would be given - compared to what my friends were doing at other internship schemes it was great. It really gave me the opportunity to showcase what I could do, learning lots of project management skills a long the way.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have developed skills in presenting, project management, organisational skills and lots more, which I know will help me in future. But perhaps the most valuable thing was learning about myself and how I best reach my full potential, which is something the company really encourages you to recognise and then learn from.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I was based in the Kingston office. The office was one of the smaller ones, and had a very friendly and cosy atmosphere. Everyone was very talkative and kind. It would be a little quiet at times, and didn't have as many events and perks as other offices which would be the only downside, but we were able to visit the other offices for work anyway so it wasn't really a problem.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was set up well. There were clear goals and milestones set from the very beginning, which was very clear and helpful as someone who was new. At the beginning, there were problems with getting online access to certain things which was an issue, but these were all resolved for me within a month and the I could get on with my work as usual.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There were a number of workshops put on for personal training and development which was great. My manager also was great at organising weekly meetings for training and to assess and give advice on my development which was really helpful, and it kept me on track every week.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    Working from home

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I am thoroughly excited by the prospect of future employment at the company. The internship has given me the knowledge and experience I need to understand the company itself, its values and its personality, and it is somewhere I would love to work in the future.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was a good social scene amongst the interns in my office, and we regularly went out for drinks, meals and on nights out (there was a club next to the office!!). As the office was in the centre of town this was made even easier. However, there were no events organised centrally, so after the induction no one really socialised from other offices. However, if you enjoy having a small social group this shouldn't be a problem.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living wasn't great - however in London it is to be expected that things are more expensive than area outside London. I would recommend living near the office as travel can also be expensive, and this minimises costs of transport for socialising.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Nightlife was good - there are lots of clubs near the office which is very handy. In Central London, which can only be short bus rides away, the nightlife is even better which is very handy.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were very few opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work. However, I was only there for 3 months so I'm sure for a longer amount of time more extra-curricular activities would have gone on (i.e. Christmas parties). I also know in some of the other offices there are more opportunities to get involved in more activities outside of work.
