    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I enjoyed the internship and I got to do lots of varied work and had the choice in what sort of work I wanted to get involved with. All the people who I met we're very friendly and helpful and the office was very nice. I spent most of my time in the office and went out about once a week which suited me well. The internship was very well planned and structured especially at the beginning so I never felt out of my depth and always knew where to go for help.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone who I met was really friendly and willing to help if I needed it. The work I was doing was interesting and well suited to my ability level. I felt that my colleagues valued me because they invited me to shadow them and work with them on projects. Even very senior colleagues always respected me and took the time to meet me and chat about what they were walking on.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • There was a good support system and so I always knew where to go for help. I had a people manager who I met with at the beginning of my internship and throughout for regular catch ups, and could ask any questions to. I also had a buddy who helped me get settled in and introduced me to the rest of the team, and was there to answer any questions and help me find projects to work on.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • As summer is a quiet time for the data team there wasn't that much work going on and lots of the team were on holiday. However people always found work for me to do and I rarely had nothing to do and when this happened people who had work were always willing to let me shadow them or do work for them.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I feel like the work that I was doing was well suited to my ability level and towards the end of my placement I started to do work that required more responsibility but I never felt like I was given too much responsibility for my ability. My work load was always a manageable amount and I did feel it was too much I would have felt comfortable asking for it to be reduced

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills that I learnt on this internship aren't particularly relevant to my degree apart from the more technical side of it but I don't want to go into a career that fully related to my degree. The skills that I learnt will however be very useful in my future careers especially the skills I learnt from shadowing meets and dealing with clients. Also the team work and communication skills will be very useful.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • In general the office and the had a very relaxed feel. This is because the office is open plan and there are no desk dividers and there are big desks which each team sit around meaning the atmosphere is more friendly and its easier to chat to people. Also most of the time when I was in the office it was dress down august which made the atmosphere more relaxed.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was very well structured especially at the beginning as the first few days were spent on a residential in windsor where we got to meet the rest of the interns from the uk and do some lessons relevant to our jobs. Then we did 2 more days of training in the office which were very well structured. After that we started work in the office which was less structure but after a few days i got into the routine of it and there were also regular meetings with my people manager.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I felt that the firm invested a lot of time in my development as in winsor there was lots of training and then in the further 2 training days in the office. There was also a data specific intern training day in the second week in birmingham which was very useful and we learnt some of the tools that we would need in the job. Also during my time in the office people were always willing to take some time to teach me anything that i needed to know aswell.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • National Travel

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • After uni I hope to stay in this area of work hopefully with PwC. Most people who do the summer internship get an offer at the end of the internship.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • All the other interns i've met have all been really nice and I am very close with the other interns in my office and we always eat lunch together and sometimes go out after work. All the data team are very friendly too and there are sometimes work events I go to.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I live at home still so i dont have to pay rent but i think rent is a reasonable price from speaking to the other interns who aren't living at home. It is much cheaper than london and southern cities and there is a range of options for socialising for all prices. Also the internship is well paid so its not too much of an issue. The travel in and around leeds is reasonable, I have a travel card for the whole of west yorkshire that was only £86 per month.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nighlife in leeds is very good and fairly cheap, I didnt really go out with work but I went for drinks with some of the other interns sometimes .

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I didnt do any activities outside of work that were organised by PwC as nothing that i was interested in came up
