    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I greatly enjoyed my internship. I worked as a Technology Consulting Summer Intern and would definitely say that every day was different. My work varied from creating presentation slides to designing banners to creating a video script! I got to meet a great deal of people and learn about their role and experiences.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • All my colleagues were very friendly, approachable and supportive. I was not afraid to ask for help when I needed it. My colleagues were very patient with me when I had numerous questions that I kept asking them. I contacted several colleagues to find some time for networking and all of them very pretty easy to meet up with.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I had a People Buddy around the office to provide me with general help. My People Manager stayed in touch with me throughout the internship as we spoke every week. She ensured that I had a great time at PwC by making sure my workload was not too less nor too much. I also had a Programme Supervisor who led the training sessions in the 1st week and she also checked in every week to see how I was doing.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I had some busy days and some slow days. My usual hours were 9am-5.30pm and I never had to stay in till after 6pm. On my slow days, I would focus on networking and doing some online training courses. There were times when I had no work at all but by asking around, I found some work to help other colleagues with.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was assigned the tasks and left to work independently to deliver the results. All of my work was reviewed later by my team colleagues to ensure that my work was of high quality. So I was given a great deal of responsibility but got the right support to ensure that I was on the right track.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have developed a great deal of knowledge and skills over the 6 weeks. I have learnt the importance of networking and my communication skills have definitely improved. I had to present thrice which improved my presentation skills vastly as I usually would be terrified of presenting in front of people.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was great! I joined during the month of August when the office had a Casual August going on. We were all coming into the office in casual wear daily so the environment was pretty relaxed and comfortable. There were lots of people working and socialising around the office so it was very lively.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was a very well organised internship. I had to attend a 3 day long training in Windsor at the start of the internship with all the other interns from different line of services and offices across the UK. I was then given a project to work on for the entire internship at my base office. We were also given a Dragon's Den type project to work on during our spare time at work. I had the right amount of support throughout the internship to ensure it was well organised.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • It is true when they say that PwC invests a lot into its people. I was trained for 3 days in Windsor with all my travel, food and hotel expenses paid for. I was invited to many office based training sessions and there was a lot of training materials on the PwC portal, Spark Pad. My People Manager, Project Manager, Programmer Supervisor and People Buddy were all available to train and support me.

  • Flexi Time

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The Summer Internship scheme is a great way to get a graduate role for the following year at the firm. It gives you an opportunity to see what the firm does and if it has the type of culture you'd want to work in. It also gives the employer an insight into who you are and if you are suitable for the graduate job. You need to collect feedback from your colleagues near the end of the internship to have it reviewed by your People Manager who then discusses your recruitment with the Partner.
