    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was a very enjoyable experience overall with a wide range of different tasks within different clients. The overall set up of the placement was very well thought out and structured.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt like a valued member of every team i worked with. Everyone explained things in a thorough way so that i understood everything i was doing and all questions i asked were well answered and received. I never felt like 'the intern' and was always treated like a colleague.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • As previously stated, all of the work i was given was well explained and given good context. If i had any questions at all, the managers and supervisors made it clear and easy for me to approach them at any point.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Most days i was kept busy all day with a range of jobs. If i found that i didn't have any work to do, i could always ask managers that i had worked for before and was given extra work to do. There were a couple of days where i struggled to get some work from people as it was 'quiet season' within PwC but on the whole i was kept busy with meaningful tasks.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given responsibility to communicate unsupervised with clients both via email and in face to face conversations in order to obtain documents and files that we needed to complete the job. I was also given the responsibility to finish tasks within Aura to the same level as any other member of staff and complete other tasks with minimal supervision.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The communication skills i have gained through networking with peers and staff and client conversations will remain highly valuable throughout my future studies and careers. The ability to work to tight deadlines whilst remaining organised and on top of everything will also aid me greatly in future studies and careers.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • There was a great atmosphere within the Cardiff office. I spent the majority of my 6 week placement in the office and have met a wide range of people ranging from new staff to experienced directors. The 'hot-desking' system worked really well for me and enabled me to meet lots of new people and have many different conversations, both work and social, which enabled me to build up a rapport with staff and learn more about PwC.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement was set up very well at the beginning, with a timetable of my activities for the whole period. Due to busy season however, this timetable fell through on a few occasions leaving a wide range jobs across the office. Whilst this meant i couldn't get stuck in to clients for long periods of time. It did however mean that i met more people and got a wider exposure to differing clients.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The induction days in Old Windsor was a great investment in our training and development. I have strong connections with other interns in offices across the UK which will prove invaluable if i get a job in the future. We were provided with Laptops and all of the associated equipment for the length of the internship as well as all expenses covered. The firm was excellent with investment into our training and development.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Having worked here and seen the atmosphere of the office, the client relationships and the nature of the work, i would be very keen to come back and work in the cardiff office as a graduate. I have met some great people and could easily see myself fitting into the office and firm culture.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • We met all of the interns in our region at the induction in windsor. We all get on really well and have met up outside of work. There was also the month-end put on by PwC which gets all staff together in a social setting for a few drinks, enabling me to talk to members of staff away from the office and was a valuable source of information and hearing 'stories' from previous work.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Cardiff is a cheap place to live with rent amongst the lowest in cities in the UK. Socialising is also cheap with food and drink prices a lot lower than other cities e.g. london.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I have been out with the regional interns and had a very good night. The nightlife in Cardiff is very lively.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • As this was only a 6 week internship, there weren't many opportunities to get involved with activities outside of work. I did however go to the month-end put on by PwC which was the biggest opportunity of my time with PwC.
