    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Welcoming and friendly colleagues, attentive and informative management, and interesting work. Not 10/10 as I personally decided I wouldn't want to go into research. I nonetheless thoroughly enjoyed the role and working for BASF - and would consequently recommend BASF's industrial placement for anyone interested in science and research.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Felt valued by employees throughout the organisation.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Support throughout, whenever needed - including invaluable monthly 1-to-1 with line manager.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • For the large majority of my placement I was busy; the only period in which I wasn't was very briefly during company restructuring.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Perfect balance struck between getting interns to the necessary workload and gradually providing more responsibility (in line with the respective capabilities and performance).

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Ability to project manage was significantly enhanced while on my placement, which helped for final year with the large workload. Also, essential research techniques learned at BASF from the great management helped with my dissertation and research-based coursework.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Friendly and jovial, always willing to listen and help.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Well organised, especially given the relatively young age of the placement compared with other companies.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Constant on-the-job training, with great support from not only line manager but all staff. All necessary training for the role is provided.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Job prospects are appealing, however graduate roles require candidates to speak fluent German. If it were not for this, I would've applied.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Good social scene, and opportunities to go out etc.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Lived in just outside city centre, which was reasonably priced and had all necessary amenities.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Great nightlife and social scene.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Many opportunities. The city has a great cultural scene and activities for everyone.
