    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The internship was very enjoyable, very social with the other interns as it is quite a large intake and the work force is also very friendly and welcoming. My work was varied and was often very important and I felt like it was not a chore but more of a fun challenge

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I feel that I was considered an equal and not an intern, my work was complex and aided others and they valued me because of that and I really felt part of the team. I was given a welcome lunch and a gift when I left which was very sweet and made me feel valued and wanted in the team

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • There was a fantastic support system at CRUK. There were cv workshops and a mentoring scheme which was so helpful when you needed advice and I gained skills I can use to apply for future jobs. I felt that I could ask anyone for help and it would be given to me

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It would vary day to day but I always had a project to be getting on with. When I was not busy it was easy to find work and there was always something to do. You have to be able to meet deadlines and juggle lots of commitments at once

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Lots, especially during intern fundraising events which was completely run by interns and was an opportunity to take on team leadership. The projects too were very much your responsibility to complete on time and had a lot of impact on the rest of the team and were used elsewhere in the charity too

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have definitely gained a lot of examples to use in future competency based interviews and application forms as I have had such an engaging and varied time at CRUK. I think that it has helped with dealing with people you don’t get on with and meeting deadlines too which is very valuable

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in departments varies across the charity. My team was very computer based and there was not that much collaboration between people so it was very quiet and it took a long time to get to know people. Other teams which need to brainstorm more are more chatty and engaging during the day.

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was very well organised, I was told when the workshops would be and what projects I would receive in advance as well as all the deadlines. The interviews came rather suddenly but apparently this will change as the HR team is working to fix this which will make the application process better

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was surprised how much personal development opportunities there were from workshops to the mentoring scheme. It felt like they genuinely wanted to help us not just to aid cruk but to aid us in the future for other careers and interviews. The workshops were insightful and expertly led and helped me with my current job application

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Company Parties/Events

    Travel loan

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • 5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There was an intern social every Thursday which allowed us to all get to know each other and network. We also arranged an intern pub quiz which was a fun social event and there was a monthly rooftop social which was very classy and had a wonderful view of London
