The Role
Had a great time, good atmosphere, not stressful hours
Trusted to do important work, and felt they were interested in me.
Had good support from my line manager although he had a busy job and when he had to cover in another area for a couple of weeks I barely saw him outside our weekly meeting.
Good level of busy, could usually ask for things to do if had nothing.
Worked included being involved on an important piece of supervision, trusted to give my judgement on areas.
Been the first time I've properly worked in an office, so in terms of getting to grips with office culture and professional skills it's been really useful. I'm not sure if it will assist in my studies much, but I wasn't really expecting it to, although I'm sure I'll have gained some analysis skills.
The Company
Open and friendly. Although when everyone's getting on with work it is quiet.
Well - although once we were in our departments all our work from there so it didn't need to be majorly centralised. All 10 weeks are in one area - which was fine for me as I had a long project to be involved with, but if you'd like to spend substantial time across multiple areas of the business, the set-up wouldn't suit you as well. Had learning lunches, a CSR day and a meeting with the chairman all set up.
Not much training - just some e learning and some talks by other departments. May be quite contingent on the type of work you do , but for 10 weeks three's no reason why loads of time should be taken up by training.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Would definitely take a job on the grad scheme although because it's not a massive company there's not huge variety horizontally.
The Culture
Relatively decent, had drinks together quite a few times. Although this can be contingent on your cohort and who's running events, sometimes they'd not be a massive turnout.
Not cheap (around £5 for a good pint) but I didn't expect it to be, and the salary could easily cover it. *Note we were in Canary Wharf - FCA moving to Stratford 2018
Canary Wharf doesn't have nightclub style nightlife, but plenty of bars after work, but the whole of London is a couple of trains away! Also remember we're moving to Stratford for 2018, there's plenty going on up that way.
Yep - I played a bit in the FCA 5-aside. Plenty of other activities to engage with should I have wanted to.
