The Role
I really enjoyed my work placement because it gave me the opportunity to learn things outsideof my degree and actually decide that I want to go into banking in the future as opposed to accounting(which is what I study) I enjoyed working in a new working environment with friendly colleagues and got given a lot of responsibility including the chance to get referred on to the graduate scheme.
I felt really valued by my colleagues. I had the intiial fear that I wouldn't be as I was 'just a student' or 'only temporary', but everyone here treated me as a permenant part of the team with a lot of potential and wanted me to come back again. I had the experience of getting to know colleagues from lots of different business areas (not just my own - retail banking) and experience days in different offices and also in branch
I was given a lot of support from my line manager. He guided me when I needed help or advice on any ofthe tasks I needed to do whilst encouraging me to come up with my own ideas and try some things independantly. I was also guided through the referral process for the graduate scheme which was great because it gave me the best possible chances of securing the job.
Some days I was extremely busy and the days flew by, this was when I was in a lot of meetings or had several different tasks to do. However towards the end of my placement I had a lot more free days as I had completed most of the work I had to do and what was left needed guidance from other members of staff who were on holiday as my internship was in the peak summer period. However, overall I felt I had a lot to do and was never overwhelmed with the amount of work I had,
I was given a fair bit of responsibility on my placement. The chance to try new things, go out and find myself new tasks to do and get involved with different activities. There were a few occasions however that I felt I did not have the same responsibility as my peers however, feel this may be down to not being as knowledgable about the job role.
I think the skills developed have assisted me both in and outside of my studies. I have gained a lot more confidence that will be useful in presentations and loving my internship has made me more eager to do well in my degree to secure a job like this in the future. I have also undertook the professional banker course which has given me a wide array of knowledge regarding banking and has helped me decide that this is where I want my future career.
The Company
There was a mixed atmosphere in the office which was perfectly balanced between fun and professional. There was a country competition where everyone got to decorate their areas and get judged which was really fun but the departments were in telephony which meant it could get a bit noisy sometimes when you were trying to concentrate on other things.
I think the internship was well set up, with lots of added training regularly throughout the ensure we were getting the most out of our time here. However, I do feel that before the internship began, a lot of the information, including where we were going to get located, working hours and uniform was left quite last minute.
The company has invested a lot in me as they have a graduate referral scheme that I have taken part in and tried to get on to. I haven't had the result yet however I had a lof of development and traning in order to develop my skills and get the right guidance to ensure I had the best chance possible of securing a future with LBG
Very appealing. I personally want to work for the company in the future as they are great company who treat their employees well and have a great culture. However I have not yet found out the result of the graduate scheme referral process even though I end my internship in two days which I feel is quite late
The Culture
There was a challenge to be done to help raise money between interns in the same region. However in my team, everyone was based in one office and I was based in another which meant it was difficult to get involved and it made everything a little more challenging for me
I did not go out or live in the area
