    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I was a member of the T&O Summer Internship. Found it very enjoyable. Great to progress over the 10 weeks and really get stuck in. Glad the scheme is 10 weeks, rather than 6 (as most are), as the whole 10 weeks is definitely packed!

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Felt very valued by colleagues. Given a huge amount of trust, as well as responsibility to help carry out important tasks for the team.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Supervisors were great at giving support and feedback. Always very open to me exploring different areas of the business and really helped me to make the most of my internship with Santander.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The first week or so were fairly slow (waiting for a laptop, issues with sign ons), but as I progressed through the internship I found myself with a lot more work coming my way, as well as a lot of independent responsibilities. A large part of this was collating weekly reports from all areas of the business ready for a weekly session we had. Also given tasks where I'd have to go out and communicate with lots of different stakeholders to put together a key implementation document.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Definitely given a lot of responsibility, really made to feel like a key member of the team.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The internship really helped to build a number of different skills, a lot of transferrable skills. My communication and presentation skills have both improved massively, as well as my management skills through opportunities that I wouldn't have come any where near my course. Really valuable experience.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Worked with my team in a very large office. Atmosphere around team was great, lots of discussion. Also the ability to meet up with different business areas within the building was a great bonus.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Slow in the first week or two, but definitely progressed following that.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Have to do a lot of mandatory training, apart from that it's all learning on the job. Colleagues very welcoming and willing to sit down with you and walk you through new processes. Always someone to ask for a hand, or just an opinion of how to go about things.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised/Company Gym

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Very friendly, great that there's an opportunity for fellow interns to meet. This is definitely boosted through the CSR project that you and fellow interns will complete.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Drove an hour from home everyday, so just had to cover my own petrol money.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • n.a.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
