    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I am very so enjoyed the insight day. In the run up to the event, it was well organised and I was provided with all the information that I needed. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted and everyone else on the insight day was chatty and there was a good raptor among the group. There was plenty of networking opportunities, as well as structured exercises. Overall the event was well organised and very informative,

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • Whilst at BP, I felt valued by the company. For the discovery day, BP not only invested financial resource into the programme but also time and planning, enabling us to feel valued. Employees volunteered their own time to come and speak to us and all questions were answered clearly and with enthusiasm.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I felt very well supported on this insight day. The information beforehand was clear and the recruitment team were quick to answer any queries or questions. The event was based on providing us with more information about BP, so throughout the day I felt that we were given plenty of guidance. Advice from employees and graduates was also very useful.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • I felt that the insight day was very well structured. There was lots of support from the recruitment team prior the event and I was given all the information I needed. From the train station, transport was provided to the event so from the moment I step off the train, I knew where I was going. The icebreakers at the beginning of the day helped us to settle in and lunch was also provided. There was a good mixture of activities planned and all of these were well structured and informative.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • 5/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There was no personal training or development programmes offered as such due to the short nature of the event, however it was clear that the company invested in us, not only financially, but also in terms of activities planned. The networking event was a good development exercise whereby, I was able to grow in confidence when speaking to other people and practice using business language.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The insight day was very useful for understanding what it would be like to have a full time role, as this event is designed exactly to do that. We were given a number of general presentations about the company but the most useful element of finding out what it would be like to work for BP, was speaking to employees and graduates, which we had the opportunity to do.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • There were no presentations on such about the company culture, but by being in the office you get the general feel for the company's culture. It is clear that diversity and inclusion is an important part of the company's culture which was insightful. Speaking to employees and graduate was the best way to understand the culture and get a feel for things like work-life balance and the feel within the office.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The content of the day was very value and although I decided that this particular company and industry is for me, it was still very useful as I can now explore other career paths. Also the skills such as networking and communication skills development are very transferable when I apply for other schemes.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I was reimbursed expenses for the event, which I was very grateful for as my train journey was over £50. I would not expect to be paid for such a short event and ultimately we were gaining more from the experience. Furthermore, all food and drinks were provided for free throughout the day.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • 3/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • The networking opportunities were really superb. Throughout the day, there were plenty of opportunities to speak to employees and graduates, who were more than happy to answer any questions and appeared to be generally interested. In the evening, a networking dinner was put on which was a really good event. Here, we had the opportunity to network with more senior individuals.

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • As diversity and inclusion is a core value at BP, there are a range of Business Resource Groups that employees can join. Their goal is to support BP's Diversity and Inclusion Ambition to create an inclusive place to work, and help to foster, develop and retain diverse talent in BP. As part of these groups, there were many interesting talks and debates that employees could attend. There are also lots of opportunities to become involved with volunteering projects.

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Yes, really useful event. Although it is not something I will necessarily do in the future, it is a really great event to improve networking skills and found out more about an industry.
