  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Greatly! As soon as i started i was treated like a permanent employee. Everyone was so friendly and i was included in all the meetings. I was really made to feel as part of the family. We had weekly meet ups where we discussed various things and i even got to present and share my own views. I had a buddy who on boarded me and introduced me to all things kings. He was so helpful and made me feel very comfortable. In addition when ever i was stuck or didn't know how to do something everyone around me was keen to help.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was supported all my way through my internship, from my buddy, leads, HR and management. I had bi-weekly meet ups with my lead and line manager where i could discuss any problems or needs. Additionally i could always approach these people for feedback when ever i wanted. I also had my buddy on hand to provide guidance and support daily. I felt very happy with all the support i had when doing the internship.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • We used an agile approach to work, working in 2 weekly sprints. This means we committed to work we could achieve within that time frame and it was discussed and reviewed every morning in stand ups. I had goals and objectives to achieve on top of this throughout the overall internship whereby i was given ample enough time to complete them. I found o could work at my own pace for sprint work and never felt stressed in getting work complete in time.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I felt like i was given great responsibility in a few areas including level design, blocker design and various other features for the game which was needed to reach sprint goals. I also was able to look at play test videos and create reports based on feedback how to improve the game. I felt being in charge of these different features and collecting the feedback could drastically change the outcome of the game which was cool!

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I learned a great amount working for a mobile games company. The skills will be easily transferable into the full time job and beyond. The job also provides loads of training which i can carry on and use throughout my career. For example learning coding or other industry programs. A lot of helpful skills were learned in the day to day job such as communicating within a team and presenting to a group my ideas and findings.

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere in the office was awesome! So fun and friendly. It is open planned so there is always something you can get involved with whether it be a conversation or a decision to be made for the project we are working on. There are several spaces you can go and chill out or work in alone if you need some time. There are loads of individual meeting rooms of various size for different meetings which you can easily book which syncs with your calendar which is really cool. The office looks amazing will cool colours and brand mascots everywhere.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very well organised with weekly meetings for speakers to tell us about different parts of the internship and opening and closing days for us all to come together make friends, learn and share our views with each other. I got meetings to make me aware of how my internship was going to go and i had goal setting session to see what i wanted to achieve from the experience. These were reviewed at the start middle and end to make sure i was getting what i wanted out of my time on the internship. Overall the internship was very well organised and transparent so i knew what was going on.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • King was great and facilitating my personal development and training. They invested a lot of time and money to get me up to speed with all things king and they also provided me the ability to move teams if i wanted to experience different parts of the business which would benefit me greatly in personal development. I believe the company were looking for the interns as a possible permanent hire so i felt like they invested as much as they would a permanent employee.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Yeah awesome social scene. As the office is in the heart of Soho there is always things going on inside the office and outside. I met so many friends on the internship that i could do various activities with. As the employees went through the same hiring process as we did the people at King are just a bunch of really cool people. So we all bonded very well going out and doing fun things.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • As its in the heart of London things were very expensive. It was a big change for me as i moved down from Scotland so the cost of living and socialising greatly rose. However King was great at helping us out with a relocation bonus which was amazing. This allowed us not to worry as much about money. Rent was about £750 a month and going out and doing activities depended how much you got out but could rack up being int he heart of London.

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Awesome! Its in the heart of Soho in London so we were close to everything. Loads of amazing restaurants and bars about. There were also comedy clubs, theatres, and concerts on so there's something for everyone. London also provides pop up shops and one off events which is always fun to check out. Its a truly awesome city and i loved that the office was in the heart of it.

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Being in the heart of London there were many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work! King also showcased a lot of these a swell so we could all go and experience them. This included football, parkour, rock climbing and theatre outings. With King being such a large office there was always someone into something interesting that i felt like i had an opportunity to get involved in which i really liked about being there.
